MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm College Interim Director of Athletics Dr. Jo-Ann Nester announced Friday afternoon that she has removed the interim tag and promoted Christian Gagnon to head coach of the men's soccer program, effective immediately.
"I am pleased to announce that we have promoted Christian Gagnon from interim head men's soccer coach to head men's soccer coach," Nester said. "Christian has a long history with the Saint Anselm men's soccer program, having played here, served as the assistant coach and then stepped in as the interim head coach. We know Christian is the best person to take the helm of this program and I am very confident that he will lead our student-athletes with integrity and enthusiasm."
Gagnon, who played four seasons for the Hawks from 1995-98, was named the interim head coach Oct. 2 of this season after serving as an assistant coach since 2005.
"I am looking forward to this transition to head coach," said Gagnon. "As a former player at Saint Anselm, I am personally committed to the challenge of building this team up. This is a relatively young team with plenty of potential for future success. It will be exciting to set up a new system and see this group respond."
Gagnon added, "We will build a structured, competitive and entertaining brand of play. In the end, we will compete and win, both on the pitch and in the classroom, and attract the attention of our competitors and fans."
