Sophomore Cade Nadeau pulled out a three-set victory at No. 4 singles, as the third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team rallied to capture its sixth NE10 Championship title with a 4-2 victory over top-seeded Le Moyne College on Sunday afternoon at the Skytop Tennis Courts.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • With the Penmen ahead, 3-2, Nadeau came from behind for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles against Kacper Piekarek. Nadeau also clinched the doubles point with junior Jesse Den Hartog, as the duo outlasted Tom Jarry and Ethan Miller, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles.
  • SNHU trailed, 2-1, when sophomore Jonathan Berling took down Manuel Righi, 6-4, 6-3, to even the match. Berling also teamed with graduate student Fernando Torres to double up Righi and Peter Hatton, 6-3, at the top flight to even doubles, 1-1.
  • Freshman Phillipp Roeder put the Penmen in front, 3-2, with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Alberto Diaz at No. 5 singles.
NOTES
  • Grad student Aron Ouwejan held a 4-6, 6-2, 6-6 (5-4) edge against Rodrigo Beires at No. 6 singles when the match was clinched.
  • Southern New Hampshire, which has won nine-in-a-row, earns its sixth NE10 title (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019).
  • SNHU, which improves to 20-11 all-time in the NE10 Championship, was playing in its ninth NE10 title match, including second straight. The Penmen lost at Le Moyne, 4-3, in last season's championship tilt.
  • Nadeau was named the NE10 Championship Most Outstanding Player and was joined on the NE10 All-Championship Team by Berling and Roeder.
  • The SNHU women's tennis team also captured the NE10 title in the fall, marking just the third time in the league's history under the current format (since 1999-00) that the same institution has won the men's and women's championships in the same calendar year (Bryant University, 2008; Stonehill College, 2009).
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Le Moyne, 17-5, and has won seven of the last nine meetings. The Penmen snapped a two-match skid against the Dolphins, as well as Le Moyne's larger 21-NE10-match winning streak, with a 4-3 regular-season victory at home April 12.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen will await their seeding for the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Selection Show airs Monday (April 24) at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com.
