Corcoran and Summa Named Athletes of the Year as the NE10 Announces All-Conference Awards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Franklin Pierce, SCSU, SNHU Earn Major Awards

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire swept the women's cross country major awards while Franklin Pierce and Southern Connecticut earn recognition on the men's side, as the NE10 announces All-Conference awards on Wednesday morning.

For a complete list of all-conference selections, please see below. All-Conference teams are based on student-athlete performances at the NE10 Championships, which took place earlier this month. The six major awards were voted on by the league's head coaches.

Ashley Corcoran was named the Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year after winning the women's 6K at the NE10 Championship. Corcoran has clocked the fastest 5K and 6K times in the NE10 this fall and most recently won the the East Region race over the weekend, making that four first-place finishes on the season. She is joined by teammate Corrina Obernesser and head coach Rich Marcello in becoming the first Penmen to earn major awards.

Obernesser is this year's Rookie of the Year and was the first rookie to cross the finishline at the NE10 Championship. Additionally, she ran the fastest 5K of all first-year runners this season. Marcello takes home Coach of the Year honors after leading SNHU to four first-place team finishes - most notably the NE10 and East Region races.

On the men's side, Wondu Summa earns Men's Athlete of the Year accolades after a second place finish at the NE10 Championship and first place finish at the East Regional. Summa won four races on the season and was a three-time NE10 Athlete of the Week selection. He becomes the first Raven to earn a major award.

Sean Barkasy is the Men's Rookie of the Year and Owls' head coach John Wallin is Coach of the Year. Barkasy is the first Southern Connecticut member since 2015 to claim Rookie of the Year, while Wallin is the first to be named Coach of the Year since he earned the honor back in 2018.

SNHU women and SCSU men lead the league with All-Conference finishes, both teams had three runners make the First Team. The Penmen had five runners total and the Owls placed seven.
