Adelphi & Bentley Take Home Two Major Awards Each


MANSFIELD, Mass. – Franklin Pierce's Ashley Cangiano was selected as the Northeast-10 Player of the Year as the NE10 released its All-Conference awards on Wednesday afternoon. 

Cangiano was named Player of the Year following an outstanding season as the NE10 offensive leader and first Raven to earn the honor. Overall, she ranked first in the conference with a .444 batting average, .537 on-base percentage and .854 slugging. She also ranked first with 64 hits, 49 runs, 54 RBIs and 10 home runs. Cangiano also had the most walks, triples and total bases in the conference this season.

NE10 Regular Season Champion Adelphi had two major award winners in Lindsey Hibbs as Pitcher of the Year and Brianna Fischer as Rookie of the Year. Hibbs was a threat from inside the circle this season with her 344 strikeouts (most in Division II) and 0.56 ERA (second in Division II). She averaged 12.83 strikeouts per game and tallied 10 shutouts, including three perfect games.

Fischer had a line of .337/.361/.574 as a first year player in the conference. She totaled 34 hits, 20 runs scored and 20 RBIs. Fischer also had 10 doubles, a triple and four home runs on the season. 

Sam Petow was honored as Defensive Player of the Year for her work in the outfield for the Falcons. She boasted a 1.000 fielding percentage in the outfield with 64 total chances, 61 put outs and three assists. She is the first Falcon to earn the honor and is joined by head coach Terry McDonough as Coach of the Year.

McDonough led the Falcons program to a 28-13-1 overall record for second place rank in the NE10 tournament. Her team ranked third in batting average (.310), on-base percentage (.371) and hits (374). McDonough is looking to take her team to the NE10 Championship final for the first time in program history.
