Southern Connecticut Men & Stonehill Women Lead After Day 1 of NE10 Championships

DAY 1 RESULTS | CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Southern Connecticut men's track & field program holds a dominant lead while the Stonehill women's team finished the day strong to also sit in front after the first day of the NE10 Track & Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center on Thursday. 

SCSU has an impressive 90 points, nearly three times as many as second place AIC (31), while Assumption is close behind the Yellow Jacket with 28. New Haven is in fourth with 26 while Stonehill rounds out the top five with 24 points. On the women's side, Stonehill has 66 total points, while the Greyhounds are in second with 48. Southern New Hampshire is close by with 38 while Adelphi (24) and Southern Connecticut (23) round out the top five. 

Men's Recap
Southern Conn earned the top six spots in the pole vault, led by Milan Spisek who set a new meet record with his height of 5.06 meters. Fradelakis Evangelos of Adelphi came through with a victory in the weight throw with his toss of 17.88 meters, followed by the Owls' Marcel Smith and Jordan Foster. 

In the long jump, Jaylynn Ellerbe-Cundiff won with his leap of 7.09 meters while his teammate Oghenefjiro Onakpoma placed third in 6.91 meters. Stonehill's Michel-Ange Siaba took second in 7.05 meters. 

Assumption's Kevin Hack captured the high jump title with his height of 2.11 meters. Dante Gonzalez of New Haven and the Hounds' Cameron Donaghue placed second and third with jumps of 1.96 and 1.91 meters. 

AIC's Ezra Mutai easily won the 5000 meter run with his time of 14:55.10, while Southern Connecticut's Jake Mattei and William Rawson of Franklin Pierce rounded out the top three. 

In the final event of the evening, the Yellow Jackets ran away with victory in the Distance Medley Relay. They won in 10:11.89, followed by Franklin Pierce in 10:15.66 and then Southern Conn. in third (10:18.83). 

Women's Recap
In the first event of the day, Kiara Birch of Adelphi took first in the pentathlon with her score of 3394, the third highest score in championship history, while Emma Santee from Assumption and SNHU's Alanna Murphy placed second and third.

In the weight throw, SNHU's Ashley Elder edged Stonehill's Shayla Lyons by just .01 meters, 15.25m-15.24m. Kassidy Gallagher took third with a throw of 14.86 meters. 

Kristen Washington of New Haven won the long jump with her leap of 5.66 meters, while Dahsia Middlebrooks was second in 5.60 meters. Stonehill swept the pole vault with Haley Lightbody, Alex Sexton and Ashley Colarusso going 1-2-3.

In the 5000 meters Maura Coakley won the event for SNHU with her time of 17:44.87, while the Skyhawks' Jordan Callahan was second in 17:53 and the Penmen's Lydia Mathson placed third in 18:32.73. 

Stonehill claimed the Distance Medley Relay in the final event of the evening with its time of 12:17.07. Adelphi placed second in the event in 12:27.94 while Southern Conn. took third in 12:31.09.
