NE10 Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Wondu Summa, Franklin Pierce
Junior l Burlington, Vt.

At the 11th annual Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup on Saturday, Franklin Pierce University's Wondu Summa grabbed first place with an 8K time of 25:07.4 which was 11 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Summa's time breaks down to a speedy 5:03.2 average for the race. The victory marks the second race Summa has won this season.


NE10 Women's Cross Country Athlete & Rookie of the Week

Tess Drury, Saint Michael's
Freshman l Richmond, Vt.

Freshman Tess Drury (Richmond, Vt.) placed third among 74 finishers in a 5K PR of 18:45.41 on Friday at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup. One of the runners she trailed was from Division I Merrimack, as she helped the Purple Knights place second out of 11 schools, topping all Division II entries.


NE10 Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Angel Mendo Alonso, Franklin Pierce
Freshman |  Malaga, Spain

At this weeks 11th annual Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup, Franklin Pierce University's Mendo Alonso finished as the top freshman runner in 13th place overall with a final time of 25:57.3. Alonso's time was 15 seconds faster than any other freshman runner in the race and equals out to a 5:13 pace through the 8K race.

 

NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

Sumaira Mayan, Adelphi (Jr., Syosset, N.Y.)
Tied her best-ever finish in a 5k and set a PR in the process ... In a chance to see the regional course before next month's championship, Sumaira Mayan posted a Top 5 finish at the Bruce Kirsch Cup, clocking a fifth-place time of 18:56.8 ... She beat her previous personal-best in the 5k by nearly nine seconds.

Nicholas Nanan, Adelphi (Sr., Woodhaven, N.Y.)
Among 100 total runners at the Bruce Kirsch Cup last Friday, Nicholas Nanan finished among the Top 20 in the 8k, placing 18th in a time of 26:24.6 -- which was also a PR for the senior.

Maya Sanchez, Adelphi (FR., Uncasville, Conn.)
Shaved off over thirty seconds from her 5k debut at UMass Dartmouth ... Her time of 20:41.1 (6:39.4 average mile) placed her among the Top 25 out of nearly 75 total runners at the Bruce Kirsch Cup.

Franciscah Cherotich, American International College (Jr., Kapenguria, Kenya)
Cherotich broke the tape at the Suffolk Invitational at Franklin Park, as the only runner to complete the six-kilometer course in under 23:00.

Noah Taracena, Saint Michael's (Sr., Hamptn, N.H.)
Senior Noah Taracena (Hampton, N.H.) broke a 20-year-old 8K program record while placing second among 99 finishers in 25:18.83 at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup on Friday. Taracena helped the Purple Knights place third among 13 schools, including second among Division II squads.

Kelsey Seamans, Southern New Hampshire (Sr., Methuen, Mass.)
Senior Kelsey Seamans led the SNHU women at Friday's Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup. She finished in 6th place overall and ran the 5k in 19:02.7.

Erik Sekyaya, Southern New Hampshire (Burlington, Mass.)
Freshman Eric Sekyaya wound up in 21st with a time of 26:34.4 at the 11th annual Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup Friday.

Carter Sylvester, Southern New Hampshire (Jr. Northwood, N.H.)
Junior Carter Sylvester was SNHU's top runner at last Friday's Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup in Hopkinton, N.H. He finished 15th in 26:12.3 for the 8k.
