Marsh, Summa Named NE10 Cross Country Athletes of the Year

XC 2023 Awards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MANSFIELD, Mass. - Franklin Pierce sophomore Wondu Summa has been named the 2023 NE10 Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year; the eighth runner in conference history, and third straight, to capture the award multiple times.  Adelphi senior Katherine Marsh has been named the 2023 NE10 Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year.  Marsh is the first Panther to receive the honor.

Marsh made history this fall, finishing 1-2 at the NE10 Championship with her twin sister Isabel.  The pair flipped at this past weekend's NCAA East Regional race, both qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Championship. Marsh's 21:38.1 time at the NE10's was the fifth fastest finish in championship race history.  Summa also qualified for the national final after claiming the NE10 and East Regional titles.

Southern Connecticut State's Jeremy Rivera was named Rookie of the Year for the men while Saint Michael's Tess Drury was voted for the women.  Rivera, a redshirt from Colchester, Conn., finished fourth at the NE10 Championship and helped guide the Owls to their second straight conference title.  Drury, who also received votes for Athlete of the Year, capped an incredible debut season by taking third at the NE10's.  Her 21:56.6 was the ninth best finish since the NE10 final moved to a 6k race in 2014.  Like Marsh, Drury qualified for the NCAA Division II championship race.

Adelphi's Katie Rees, a former Panther's student-athlete and assistant before becoming head coach in 2010, was voted by her peers as women's Coach of the Year for the first time in her career.  The Panthers finished second at the NE10 Championship race, nine points behind Southern Connecticut, giving the league it's closest race since 2017.  Speaking of the Owls, John Wallin was voted Coach of the Year on the men's side for the second consecutive season and third time overall (2018, 2022).
