Four men, five women recognized to advance to All-America Team ballot

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Nine student-athletes representing Northeast-10 Conference member institutions have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Both teams, which recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, were announced on Thursday morning by CoSIDA.

Bentley University senior Weston Zeiner (3.84 GPA) and Saint Michael’s College junior Chris George (3.77) were both selected to the men’s team, while Southern New Hampshire University had two selections in grad student Austin Britt (3.71) and senior Jordan Branco (3.81).

On the women’s team, junior Danielle Dion (3.40) of Merrimack College earned All-District recognition, while The College of Saint Rose and So. New Hampshire both had two honorees. For Saint Rose, juniors Sydney Bond (3.42) and Carmelina Puopolo (3.35) were recognized, and for So. New Hampshire, senior Daniela Abruzzese (3.81) and grad student Emily Mongeau both garnered selections.

Mongeau (pictured) posted the highest grade point average (3.87) among the nine Northeast-10 honorees.

The aforementioned student-athletes advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Capital One is in its third year as the presenting sponsor of the program, which honors nearly 2,000 student-athletes at the national level and 4,000 student-athletes at the district level for their all-around accomplishments in the classroom, in the community and in competition.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
