Two schools finish tied in preseason vote among
head coaches, receive six first-place votes apiece

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Franklin Pierce University and Southern New Hampshire University finished tied for first place in the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Both schools received 161 points and six first-place votes in the poll.

No. 7 Franklin Pierce's only loss last season came in the national semifinals against Lynn University in Pensacola, Fla., finishing 21-1-1 overall and 12-0-1 in Northeast-10 play.

No. 13 So. New Hampshire went 18-4 last season and 11-2 in conference action, but lost on three different occasions to Franklin Pierce. The Ravens claimed victory in the lone regular-season matchup, 2-1, and also knocked off the Penmen in the Northeast-10 Championship and the NCAA national quarterfinal. Both contests were 1-0 finals.

The two teams will square off on Saturday, September 15 at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H. (7:00 p.m.).

The University of Massachusetts Lowell (11-7, 9-4 NE-10) finished third with 141 points and a pair of first-place votes in the poll, while Le Moyne College (11-8-1, 9-4 NE-10) came in fourth with 126 points. Southern Connecticut State University (8-8-1, 7-5-1 NE-10) finished in fifth place with 122 points.

Rounding out the top 10 was Merrimack College (9-7-3, 7-5-1 NE-10) with 113 points, Bentley University (9-7-2, 7-5-1 NE-10) with 107 points, American International College (5-10-3, 4-7-2 NE-10) with 68 points, Stonehill College (10-9, 7-6 NE-10) with 56 points, and the University of New Haven (5-9-3, 4-8-1 NE-10) with 55 points.

The remainder of the poll included Saint Anselm College (6-10-2, 3-9-1 NE-10) with 54 points, Saint Michael's College (5-10-2, 3-9-1 NE-10) with 52 points, Assumption College (3-10-1, 3-9-1 NE-10) with 42 points, and The College of Saint Rose (1-16, 0-13 NE-10) with 16 points.
