Penmen jump to No. 3 in nation while Ravens drop to sixth

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University and Franklin Pierce University both remained in the top-10 of the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Top-25 Poll, with So. New Hampshire moving up three spots to third in the nation while Franklin Pierce dropped three spots to No. 6.

The two teams will square off Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H.

So. New Hampshire (4-0, 1-0 NE-10) earned a pair of victories last week versus Bridgeport (3-0) and at Dowling (1-0) before claiming a 2-1 victory on the road Tuesday night over Merrimack College.

Senior Chris Tsonis (pictured), who registered the game-winning goal in all three contests, has nine points on the season to lead the Penmen, while sophomore Mohamed Toufik has two goals and an assist for five points.

Franklin Pierce (2-1, 0-1 NE-10) earned a 5-4 victory on the road this past Saturday over Wilmington (Del.) but suffered a 3-2 loss at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Tuesday night, snapping a 30-game unbeaten streak in regular-season play dating back to 2010.

The Ravens have been led by senior Greg Giguere with four goals and an assist for nine points, while classmate Daniel Donaldson and junior Gareth Dudney have two goals apiece.

 So. New Hampshire and Franklin Pierce also occupy the first and second spots in the latest NSCAA East Region poll, which also features three other Northeast-10 schools. Bentley University and UMass Lowell are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, and Merrimack came in at No. 10.

NE-10 NOTES: UMass Lowell's Bruno Bonicontro was named the Northeast-10 Select Sport Player of the Week on Monday after scoring three times in a 2-0 week for the River Hawks. Anastasios Petridis of the University of New Haven took home Goalkeeper of the Week honors and Assumption College's Dana King was lauded as Rookie of the Week.
