Fourteen selected to Daktronics Men's Soccer All-East Region Team

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Fourteen student-athletes from Northeast-10 Conference member institutions were selected to the 2012 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men's Soccer All-East Region Team, it was announced on Monday.

Southern New Hampshire University, the 2012 NCAA East Regional Champion, led the way with five players recognized on the First and Second Teams.

So. New Hampshire senior forward Chris Tsonis (pictured) was named the East Region Co-Player of the Year in addition to being selected to the First Team. Tsonis, who helped lead the Penmen to the national quarterfinals before falling to Mercyhurst this past weekend, had a conference-leading 16 goals and four assists for 36 points.

Tsonis shared the regional honor with Post University forward Joe Baccielo, who had 15 goals and eight assists this year.

Joining Tsonis on the First Team was a pair of teammates in senior midfielder Ruben Resendes and freshman defender Jonathan Lupinelli. Resendes and Lupinelli had four and eights assists, respectively, this season.

The University of Massachusetts Lowell had two selections on the First Team in sophomore forward Homero Morais and senior midfielder Bruno Bonicontro. Morais had 13 goals and six assists for 32 points, while Bonicontro totaled eight goals and seven helpers for 23 points en route to an NCAA appearance.

American International College senior midfielder Conor Doyle was a First Team pick as well after compiling four goals and 12 assists to lead the Yellow Jackets to a Northeast-10 Championship berth.

Bentley University senior defender Weston Zeiner was also a First Team selection. He had two goals and two assists this fall for the Falcons.

On the Second Team, So. New Hampshire junior goalkeeper Dom DiMaggio and freshman defender Dominic Samuel were both recognized.

Merrimack College had three selections on the Second Team in senior forward Franklin Lemus Pena, sophomore goalkeeper Jose Silva and senior defender Olof Lindhe. Lemus Pena was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, while Silva earned Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year honors.

Franklin Pierce University defender Daniel Donaldson, a graduate student, was also named to the Second Team, as was Saint Michael's College junior midfielder Josh Vlasich.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
