FALMOUTH, Mass. – Three student-athletes were named the 2012-13 Northeast-10 Conference Outstanding Scholar-Athletes of the Year on Monday night at the conference’s yearend banquet. 

Assumption College’s Amanda Guy and The College of Saint Rose’s Caitlin Brauer were named Northeast-10 Co-Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, while Bentley University’s Weston Zeiner received the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

A committee of faculty members and athletic administrators from Northeast-10 institutions select the conference’s annual Outstanding Scholar-Athletes. 

Guy (pictured, right), a member of the Greyhounds women’s swimming & diving team, was the winner of the 2013 Desautel Award as Assumption’s Premier Female Senior Student-Athlete. A double major in Accounting and Marketing, the Lakeville, Mass. native graduates with a 3.97 grade-point average, which includes five perfect 4.0 semesters.

The two-year team captain, Guy also helped lead Assumption to its best finish in school history at the 2013 Northeast-10 Championships in February. The three-time Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference selection was also actively involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Assumption and completed internships with both Verizon and Price-Waterhouse.

Brauer, who was also named the 2013 Northeast-10 Woman of the Year on Monday night, earned her MBA from Saint Rose in just four years. The Clifton Park, N.Y. native graduates with a 3.75 GPA as an Accounting major.

A team captain for Saint Rose’s women’s swimming & diving team, Brauer also received the 2012-13 Northeast-10 Sport Excellence Award and is a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree. She also garnered Capital One District 1 Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA in 2011-12. Brauer closed out her illustrious career as a four-time NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships qualifier, as well as a two-time All-America selection in the 400 individual medley.

Zeiner (pictured, left), a men’s soccer student-athlete with a 3.84 GPA as an Accountancy major, was named Bentley’s Outstanding Male Senior Athlete this past April. The North Granby, Conn. native and Falcons’ team captain twice received Capital One Academic All-America honor and is a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree. He also received the Northeast-10 Scholar Athlete Sport Excellence Award for men’s soccer this past season and has participated in community service initiatives.

On the field, Zeiner was selected First Team All-Conference by the league’s head coaches each of the last three years and was also named the 2012 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year. He finished his career with 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
