Ten Student-Athletes Garner All-America Recognition

South Easton, Mass. – Ten football players representing the Northeast-10 were named to the 2011 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Teams it was announced today. Five student athletes were named to the second team, one to the third team, and four more were named honorable mention All-Americans.

Northeast-10 Conference champions, The University of New Haven, which advanced to the national quarterfinals, led the way with seven student-athletes, which were recognized. The seven honorees from one school were tied for second-most among all of Division II.

Charlie Hatchett, Kameel Lashley, and David Stedman were second team selections, while Desmond Anderson, Tom Hurd, Ryan Osiecki, and Jason Thompson were all chosen as honorable mention selections.

Also recognized was NE-10 most valuable player, Rashaad Slowley, pictured, from Southern Connecticut State University, as he was tabbed a second-team selection, as was the NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year, Merrimack College's Shawn Loiseau.

Loiseau's teammate, wider receiver Isaiah Voegeli was a third team offense selection.

The Don Hansen Division II All-America Team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.

The Don Hansen Football Committee selected All-Super Region teams in December and early January, with the first-team and second-team All-Super Region players advancing to the national ballot.

A total of 183 players earned some form of Don Hansen All-America honors. Players from 84 of the 152 football-playing schools in Division II earned Don Hansen All-America accolades. National Champion Pitt State led the way by placing eight players on the All-America squad, while national runner-up Wayne State, national semifinalist Delta State and national quarterfinalist New Haven garnered seven individuals apiece.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 5,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
