New Haven, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University senior running back Rashaad Slowley, the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Most Valuable Player, has been named as one of nine finalists for the 2011 Harlon Hill Award, presented annually to the top player in Division II.

National voting will conclude on December 2 and the top three finishers will be invited to Florence, Alabama for the presentation banquet.

Slowley is currently third in the country at all levels of college football in scoring with 29 touchdowns and 174 points. He also ranks sixth in all of college football in rushing yards per game (158.4) and sixth in Division II in all-purpose yards (181.7).

His 29 touchdowns are a new So. Connecticut single-season record, and currently place him second in Division II in scoring.

In a Sept. 17 game against Saint Anselm, he set a new school-record with six touchdown runs in a 59-34 win. Two weeks later, with So. Connecticut trailing by 14 points at halftime against Assumption, he ran for 236 of his 288 yards after the break to ignite an Owls' comeback.

The 236 yards were the second-highest single-half total in NCAA Division II history, trailing only former teammate Jarom Freeman's 251 yard effort in the first half of a Nov. 2, 2007 game against Bryant.

A two-time Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week and nine-time weekly honoree by the league this year, Slowley has also posted eight straight games with at least 100 yards and two efforts with more than 200 yards. He has scored a touchdown in all nine games this year, including eight straight multiple touchdown performances to open the year.

In all, Slowley has totaled 247 carries for 1,365 yards and 25 rushing touchdowns and also hauled in 20 catches for 222 yards and two receiving touchdowns. He also leads the Northeast-10 Conference in rushing and touchdowns and is second in all-purpose yards.

In addition, Slowley has currently moved into third place all-time at So. Connecticut in scoring (260 points) and touchdowns (43), just one touchdown away from moving into second place. He is also currently fourth all-time in school history with 3,241 yards. His 1,365 yards to date are the seventh highest single-season total in school history.

The winner of the 2011 award, which is presented by the National Harlon Hill Award Committee, will be announced at the 26th annual Harlon Hill Trophy Presentation Banquet on Friday, December 16 at the Florence Conference Center at 6:30 p.m.

This year's Hill Trophy Banquet will also include the 13th induction into the Division II Football Hall of Fame.
