Waltham, Mass. – Bentley University junior Will Lockwood is one of 42 placekickers from across college football who have been recognized by the Fred Mitchell Award for excellence on the field and in the community during the month of September.

Lockwood, who had never before appeared in a college game, was one of 18 from Division II who made the list. He helped Bentley to a 4-1 record during the month with his 33 points a team-high. He was successful on each of his 21 extra point attempts and also put four of his five field goal attempts through the uprights. Lockwood also handled the bulk of the kickoffs for the Falcons in September.

In his first career game after sitting behind two proven kickers during his first two seasons, Lockwood scored a dozen points in Bentley's season-opener, a 50-3 win over SUNY-Maritime. A week later, in a loss to still-undefeated West Virginia Wesleyan, he drilled a 44-yard field goal.

Lockwood's monthly performance has also included a 30-yard field goal and PATs in a 31-12 win at Stonehill, five extra points in a 43-15 win over Saint Anselm and four PATs in a 28-10 victory over American Int'l this past Friday.

Lockwood, with his 33 points, ranks seventh overall in scoring in the Northeast-10 Conference and is third among NE-10 placekickers. His accuracy rate is the best in the conference through five games.

Lockwood, along with the rest of the team, helped Bentley's incoming freshman move into the dorms at the start of the year. While at Sacred Heart Prep, he went on service trips to Mexico, Costa Rica and Honduras.
