New Haven Tops Regional Rankings For Third Consecutive Week

New Haven Tops Regional Rankings For Third Consecutive Week

For Immediate Release

November 8, 2011

South Easton, Mass. – The University of New Haven football team is ranked first in the NCAA Division II Super Region One Regional Rankings that were released yesterday. The Chargers are 9-1 overall this season, but a perfect 9-0 in region play, which is what the rankings are based on.

It's the third consecutive week that New Haven has occupied the top spot in the regional poll that determines the field for the NCAA Division II Football Championship.

New Haven has a perfect 7-0 mark in Northeast-10 Conference play this season, and can finish the conference portion and regional portion of their schedule undefeated this Saturday when they take on Saint Anselm College.

The Chargers only loss this season came at the hands of football subdivision member William and Mary College in September.

Also appearing once again in the Super Region One rankings for a third straight week is Southern Connecticut State University at No. 8. The Owls dropped a spot from seventh to eighth this week, and are very much 'on the bubble' for a potential NCAA Championship berth.

The Owls are currently 7-1 in regional play, with their only loss coming to top-ranked New Haven last month. So. Connecticut has the chance to register a quality win this weekend, when they take on Merrimack College this Saturday.

This marks the third and final regional poll of the season that will be announced prior to the field being selected for the 2011 NCAA Division II Football Championship. The NCAA Championship field will be announced on Sunday, November 13.
