NE10 Men's Soccer Report: Week 6

MSOC Week 6 Players of the Week

Week 6 - October 9, 2023

NE10 Player & Rookie of the Week

Ali Taleb, AIC
Freshman | Forward | Glastonbury, Conn.

Taleb went off for the Yellow Jackets, taking part in all five goals AIC scored on the week. He netted a brace and then set up another against Queens, and then scored both of AIC's goals against Saint Rose for a four goal, one assist and nine point week. Taleb has now scored two goals in three straight games.

NE10 Defensive Player of the Week

Peter Hasund, Assumption
Graduate Student  |  Defense  |  Bilbao, Spain

Hasund scored two goals in Assumption's 3-0 win at Adelphi. This was the Greyhounds' first win over the Panthers in program history. He scored the opening goal in the 15th minute before sealing the win with a midfield strike in the final minute of regulation. On the defensive end, he was a crucial part in Assumption stifling the Adelphi attack, as they limited the Panthers to just one of their 20 shots on target.

NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week

Devin Juan, Southern Connecticut State
Junior  |  Goalkeeper  |  Meriden, Conn.

Devin Juan had a career game at No. 1 Franklin Pierce on Oct. 4, following that up with another outstanding showing vs. No. 12 Post.  Juan stopped 13 shots from the Ravens before allowing the game winner, 1-0, in the final five minutes.  He also stopped three of Post's four shots on goal in a 1-1 tie.

NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

Iver Sjavag, Assumption (Fr., GK - Alesund, Norway)
Iver Sjavag logged his second straight clean sheet, as he just needed to make one save in the win at Adelphi. This was the Greyhounds' first win over the Panthers in program history.

Christian Zarka, Bentley (Sr., D - Derry, N.H.)
Zarka played his first game in more than a year, scoring a goal in Bentley's 4-0 win over Saint Anselm. Returning from a career-threatening knee injury, Zarka scored in the 41st minute and played 25 minutes.

Younes Addar Khanoussi, Franklin Pierce (Gr., F - Castellon, Spain)
Younes Addar continues to catch attention around the country following another dominant week on the soccer pitch. During the team's home game against SCSU, Addar scored the game-winning-goal via a header in the 84th minute. Addar has now scored in six consecutive games and sits at the top of the leaderboard for goal scorers in DII men's soccer.

Augustus McGiff, New Haven (So., M - Brookhaven, N.Y.)
The three goals for the Chargers on the week all came from one player, sophomore Augustus McGiff who leads the team with 17 goals and 15 points, with his seven goals the second most in the NE10. Two of those goals came against Saint Rose as the Chargers finished with a 2-2 draw against the Golden Knights, while he added his third on the road at Southern New Hampshire.

Ronnie Riby-Williams, St. Michael's (Fr., F - Montpelier, Vt.)
Freshman Ronnie Riby-Williams scored the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw at 23rd-ranked Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, tallying in the 49th minute, only a minute after the Penmen had scored the opening goal.

Liam Barrett, St. Michael's (Sr., GK - Saugus, Mass.)
Liam Barrett made six saves in a 1-1 draw at Hampshire on Wednesday in his team's lone contest.

Hilmar Halldorsson, St. Rose (Sr., F - Akranes, Iceland)
Halldorsson netted goals in both contests across a 1-0-1 week for Saint Rose, including a second-half strike that helped the Golden Knights come back from two goals down to defeat American International 3-2 on Saturday. Halldorsson, who is sitting on three-match scoring streak, is currently tied for second in the conference with seven goals.
