No. 2 Adelphi One of Five Northeast-10 Schools Ranked in Women’s Lacrosse National Preseason Poll

New Haven, No. 15 Bentley also ranked by IWLCA

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Adelphi University has been ranked second in the country according to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) national preseason poll, it was announced by the organization on Monday.

The Panthers were one of five Northeast-10 Conference teams to appear in the top-15 rankings, joining fifth-ranked Le Moyne College, eighth-ranked Stonehill College, No. 13 University of New Haven and No. 15 Bentley University.

Merrimack College and Saint Anselm College were both receiving votes in the poll.

The Northeast-10 Conference office will release its preseason poll next week on Tuesday, February 11.

Reigning national champion LIU Post from the East Coast Conference (ECC) was ranked No. 1.

Adelphi, which fell to LIU Post in the national semifinals a year ago, begins its 2014 season on February 21 at Grand Valley State. Returning to the Panthers will be senior Devan Crimi (pictured), who led the Northeast-10 in goals (69), assists (32) and points (101) last spring, as well as sophomore Rachel O'Brien, the reigning Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year.

Le Moyne and Stonehill also earned NCAA Tournament berths along with Adelphi in 2013.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
