Adelphi Women's Lacrosse Downs Saint Anselm, 20-6, Advances to NCAA Final Four

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The top ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team entered halftime with just a three-goal lead at 8-5 but outscored the visiting Hawks of Saint Anselm College, 12-1, in the second half to collect a 20-6 victory in the NCAA Division II Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, advancing to the Final Four for the second season in a row. With the win the Panthers improve to a spotless 20-0 overall record, while the Hawks close out their season 13-5.

Devan CrimiAlexa Froccaro and Rachel O'Brien led the Adelphi offense with a combined 14 goals, getting five goals and five assists from Crimi, five goals and two assists from Froccaro and four tallies and one assist from O'Brien. Danielle Jaycox and Jackie Jahelka also had strong games, with three goals for Jaycox and a two goals and one helper from Jahelka. 

Lauren Janelli and Jacqueline Williams led the defense with three caused turnovers each, while Meg Brown caused two Saint Anselm turnovers. Felicia Mills controlled the draw for Adelphi, winning 13 draw controls, while Brown and Froccaro both grabbed a team-high three ground balls. Taylor Hayes made one save, while picking up her 18th victory of the season.

The Brown and Gold started fast, scoring the first three goals of the contest, including a tally from Froccaro at the 26:02 mark, giving Adelphi a 3-0 edge. The Hawks would answer back with a goal at 24:06, but two tallies off the sitck of Crimi, pushed the lead to 5-1 with 22:53. However, Saint Anselm counter punched the home team, scoring four of the next six goals, a run that concluded with an Erin Marshall goal with just 35 seconds on the clock, cutting Adelphi's marging to two goals. 

The Brown and Gold were staggered but did not go down, as Froccaro answered back just 32 seconds later, scoring on a 9 yard rip, off of an assist from Crimi to send Adelphi into the locker room ahead, 8-5. After a 10 minute intermission, the home squad turned up the pressure on the Hawk defense and broke through, scoring three goals in the first 1:48 of the second period, the final goal coming off the stick of Jaycox, putting Adelph ahead, 11-5. 

From there it was all Panthers, as the Brown and Gold scored nine of the next 10 goals to close the door on the fiesty Hawks, collecting a 20-6 victory. The win, send Adelphi to the NCAA Division II Final Four for the second straight season and the ninth time in program history.
