Panthers receive seven first-place votes,
narrowly oust second-place Le Moyne in poll

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Adelphi University garnered seven first-place votes and 137 points to take the top spot in the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Preseason Poll, as voted upon by the league’s 13 head coaches, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The Panthers (18-3, 11-1 NE-10) advanced to the NCAA Championship Final Four last spring, falling to LIU Post in the national semifinals. The setback came after an NCAA first-round win over conference rival Le Moyne College, which finished second in the poll.

Le Moyne (16-3, 11-1 NE-10), which received four first-place votes and 134 points in the poll, had previously taken down Adelphi in the Northeast-10 Championship contest, as both programs earned NCAA bids a year ago.

Adelphi was ranked No. 2 and Le Moyne No. 5 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (IWLCA) national preseason poll.

Bentley University (11-7, 9-3 NE-10) finished sixth with 91 points, followed by Southern New Hampshire University (7-10, 6-6 NE-10) with 73 points, Merrimack College (5-11, 4-8 NE-10) with 66 points and Assumption College (9-8, 5-7 NE-10) with 65 points, while Franklin Pierce University (3-12, 2-10 NE-10) rounded out the top-10 with 49 points.

Making up the remainder of the poll was Saint Michael’s College (5-10, 3-9 NE-10) with 35 points and American International College (1-15, 0-12 NE-10) and Southern Connecticut State University (3-13, 1-11 NE-10) both received 19 points in the ledger.
