The Hawks and Dolphins Come Through in the Fourth Quarter to Advance to NE10 Title Game

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Top seed Saint Anselm trailed 8-6 entering the fourth quarter but responded by outscoring No. 5 seed Pace 6-2 in the final period to earn a 12-10 victory in the Northeast-10 Men's Lacrosse Semifinals.

In the other semifinal, No. 2 seed Le Moyne also used a dominant fourth quarter to separate themselves from Adelphi, outscoring the Panthers 4-2 in the final period for a 14-10 victory. The top two seeds will not meet for the NE10 Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the campus of Saint Anselm.

Down by as many as three goals in the third quarter, the Hawks scored eight of the game's final 11 markers to capture the thrilling 12-10 win. With the score locked in at nine with 8:17 to go in regulation time, seniors Matt Ward, Ryan Richards and Griffin Shoemaker scored in succession to create a 12-9 lead with 39 seconds left in regulation time.

Sophomore Ryan Slattery played a huge part on defense for Saint Anselm, causing a team-best three turnovers and collecting as many ground balls. Sophomore Craig Yannone won 15-of-25 face-offs on the day, including eight-of-nine in the fourth quarter, to help the Hawks complete the comeback attempt. Shoemaker and Richards each tallied a hat trick in the contest while CJ Hart made 11 saves to earn the win. No. 2 Le Moyne 14, No. 3 Adelphi 10  – Box Score

The third meeting of the year between Le Moyne and Adelphi was a heated affair as the Panthers erased a four-goal deficit before the top ranked Dolphins finally pulled away in the last ten minutes for a hard-fought 14-10 win on Wednesday.

Le Moyne scored the first three goals of the contest and stretched its lead to 7-3 with six minutes left in the first half. Adelphi managed to close the gap to 8-5 at the half and then tallied three straight goals to open the third, tying the game 8-8. The Dolphins countered with two goals in the last 2:30 of the third, but a goal by the Panthers at 14:07 kept them down just 10-9. They never got even as Le Moyne tallied three goals in less than two minutes to put the game away for good.

The win marks Le Moyne's fourth trip to the NE10 Championship game in the last five seasons. Ross Filtch led the offense with four goals while Kevin Sheehan added three. Defensively, Ryan Albert had three ground balls and three caused turnovers while Frank Delia earned the win in net with eight saves.
