Bentley Women, Men Lead Way Following Day One of Northeast-10 Swimming & Diving Championships

DAY ONE RESULTS

Thursday sees two men’s relays
achieve new Northeast-10 record times

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The four-day 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Swimming & Diving Championships got underway at Hutchinson Natatorium on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University Thursday afternoon.

After the first day of competition, Bentley University holds first place in both the women's and men's standings. For the complete team standings, please see below.

Bentley sophomore Nicola Mancini won the women's 1-meter diving finals Thursday for the second straight year, posting a score of 403.00, narrowly ousting So. Connecticut junior Jessica Renzo, who scored out at 400.75. Mancini also had a score of 406.30 in the afternoon prelims.

On the men's 1-meter board, Le Moyne College sophomore Josh Byrne took the gold with a score of 433.70 after posting 419.40 in the prelims. Bentley sophomore Colton Bridge was second at 373.80 in the finals, while The College of Saint Rose junior David Genender was third (372.70).

The So. Connecticut men set a new Northeast-10 record in the 200 medley relay, as the foursome of freshman Christian Berg, juniors Raymond Cswerko and Dan Elliot and sophomore Brendan Murphy finished first in 1:31.08, breaking the previous record (1:33.38) by more than two seconds.

Also on Thursday night, the Saint Rose men's 800 freestyle relay of Eric HowardKyle Wilson,Jordan Gregg and Timothy Wilson set a new Northeast-10 record with a time of 6:52.01.

The Assumption College women’s 200 medley relay team finished first in their event, as sophomore Victoria Weber, freshman Rachel Gagnon and juniors Katherine Medeiros and Elise Prayson posted a time of 1:46.74.

Assumption also took first in the women's 800 free relay with a time of 7:44.14. The winning quartet was made up of freshmen Rachel Lanam, Tricia Lee, Libby Gajewski and senior Monique Haney.

Championship action continues Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.
