Saint Rose's Brauer Listed Among Top-30 for Prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award

Albany, N.Y.Caitlin Brauer, who recently graduated with a master's degree from The College of Saint Rose after completing only her fourth year at the school, is among a mere thirty women, selected from a group of more than 450 nominees, who have been chosen as the top 30 honorees for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Ten women from each of the three divisions make up the top 30, spanning various NCAA sports. In September, three finalists from each division will be selected to form the nine finalists for the award. The 2013 Woman of the Year will be announced at an annual ceremony in Indianapolis on Sunday, October 20.

The top 30 honorees reflect the pillars of the Woman of the Year award, with outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.

· Cumulatively, the top 30 earned a 3.79 grade-point average and nearly 50 Academic All-America honors.

· The top 30 earned 12 national championships (individual and team) and more than 80 All-America honors.

· The top 30 volunteered for 365 organizations during their college careers.

· Many served as team captains and held leadership positions in various campus and community organizations.

Anna Soho, NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee chair, described the extraordinary commitment to academics and athletics by each of the top 30 honorees.

"These distinguished women are truly quintessential NCAA student-athletes, demonstrating dedication not only to athletic achievement but academic excellence and community leadership as well," said Soho. "The NCAA applauds their achievements, and we know that they will continue to be role models and make a positive impact on the world."

Brauer undoubtedly belongs in such elite company. Among her numerous accolades, she was honored earlier this summer as both the Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year and the Outstanding Female Scholar-Athlete. She shared the latter with fellow swimmer Amanda Guy of Assumption College

A Capital One Academic All-American® in 2012-13, Brauer is the most decorated female swimmer to ever hit the water for Saint Rose. She closed out her career with her name etched besides seven individual school records and as part of four record-setting relay teams.

Brauer qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of her four years after becoming the first female to ever represent the Golden Knights at that meet. She was furthermore recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as a Scholar All-American in each of the past three years.

Brauer was also active in a number of community engagement projects throughout her collegiate career. The former team captain served for two years as Treasurer of the Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society and as a volunteer for several entities including, the Clifton Park/Halfmoon Piranhas Swim Club, the Friday Knights Youth Program at Saint Rose, and Relay for Life.

Brauer is currently working as a staff accountant for UHY International, LLP in Albany.
