Byrne also receive conference yearly awards
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – For the second consecutive year, Southern Connecticut State University junior Raymond Cswerko has been named the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Year, it was announced on Thursday morning by the league office.
Cswerko was victorious in the
men’s 200 fly (1:46.25) this past weekend to win the
individual national title at the 2014 NCAA Division II Swimming
& Diving Championships in Geneva, Ohio. The Torrington, Conn.
native also finished runner-up in the 400 IM (3:51.83) at nationals
and fifth in the 200 IM (1:46.25) to give him four career
All-America honors. Cswerko was named the 2014 Northeast-10
Championship Men’s Swimmer of the Meet last month as well
after helping lead the Owls to their 12th conference crown in 13
years.
Pace University grad student Kaitlyn
Lynch was named the 2014 Northeast-10 Women’s
Swimmer of the Year, as voted upon by the conference’s head
coaches. Lynch earned Northeast-10 Championship Women’s
Swimmer of the Meet honors in early February after winning three
events at the meet. A Vallejo, Calif. native, Lynch was victorious
in the 50 free (24.17), 100 fly (50.82) and 100 back (57.06), while
her 50 free time set a new conference record.
For the second straight year, Bentley University sophomore
Nicola Mancini unanimously received
Northeast-10 Women’s Diver of the Year honors. The Falmouth,
Maine native earned All-America recognition on both the 1-meter
(453.70) and 3-meter (413.75) boards at the NCAA Championships last
weekend, giving her three such honors for her career. She finished
fifth on the 1-meter and 12th on the 3-meter, and also earned
Northeast-10 Championship Diver of the Meet honors last month after
helping the Falcons to a third-place team finish at Hutchinson
Natatorium.
Also for the second straight year, Le Moyne College sophomore
Josh Byrne was named the Northeast-10
Men’s Diver of the Year. Byrne was named the conference
championship’s Men’s Diver of the Meet after sweeping
the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions. He then went on to earn
Honorable Mention All-America accolades off the one-meter diving
board at the 2014 NCAA Championships, placing 15th on the one-meter
with 419.85 points.
Assumption College freshman Libby
Gajewski collected 2014 Northeast-10 Women’s
Rookie of the Year just a month after helping the Greyhounds to
their first-ever Northeast-10 Women’s Swimming & Diving
Championship. Gajewski won the 200 free at the conference
championship and was also part of the winning 800 free relay at the
meet. She also finished second in the 100 free at NE-10’s
last month.
So. Connecticut freshman Christian Berg
was named the Northeast-10 Men’s Rookie of the Year on
Thursday. At the conference championships, the Groton, Conn. native
set a new Northeast-10 record in the prelims of the 200 backstroke
before resetting the Northeast-10 benchmark (and Hutchinson pool
record) in the event later that day in the final. Berg also swam
for four record-setting relays at the meet for the Owls’
men.
Assumption head coach Stuart Cromarty
was named Northeast-10 Women’s Coach of the Year by his peers
after Assumption, as mentioned, won the first Northeast-10 title in
program history last month.
Decorated So. Connecticut head coach Tim
Quill received the 2014 Northeast-10 Men’s
Coach of the Year award after his Owls won yet again at the
conference meet, defeating second-place Bentley by 168 points
before accompanying Cswerko to nationals.

Northeast-10 Women's Diving Coach of the Year, while Le Moyne's
Jack Gibbons earned Men's Diving Coach of
the Year honors. Both received the same honors in 2013 as well.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship.
