SNHU's Jeff Liss Shoots League-Best 68.

CONCORD, N.H. – Assumption, the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference champion, shot a 289 (+9) as a team on Tuesday at the Concord Country Club and will take a four-stroke lead into the second day of the 2021 NE10 Men's Golf Championship.

The Greyhounds secured three top-10 finishes in the opening round of the Championship, led by sophomore Sean Magarian and senior Lucas Roop – who each carded a 71 (+1) to tie for fourth place. Reigning champion Le Moyne (+13) and pre-championship favorite Southern New Hampshire (+14) follow Assumption on the team leaderboard.

SNHU junior Jeff Liss recorded the best round of the day by shooting a 68 (-2), good for a two-stroke lead over his teammate, sophomore AJ Cavotta, and Le Moyne sophomore Tyler Birdd (E, 70). On Wednesday, Liss will look to become the first Penmen golfer since Matt Paradis in 2018 to earn the Gordon McCullough Memorial Award for individual medalist honors.

Saint Anselm, which currently sits in sixth place on the leaderboard (+21, 301), led all NE10 programs with 10 birdies on Tuesday. Roop pocketed the only eagle of the day for any golfer, while Liss and Birdd were tied with Bentley's Jared Walter and Saint Rose's Hunter Hubel for the tournament lead with four birdies apiece.

The Championship currently has 12 golfers within five strokes of each other at the top of the leaderboard, with seven different programs represented.

Day 2 of the NE10 Men's Golf Championship, hosted by Southern New Hampshire, is scheduled for Wednesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. Assumption will look to secure a second league title in three seasons, while the rest of the field will look to catch up in the final round.
