Pace, Adelphi to host first-round championship contests Friday night

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Bentley University will serve as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Championship, which gets underway Friday night with first-round contests.

The top-six seeds will receive byes into the Northeast-10 Championship Quarterfinals, which will take place on Sunday, March 3.

Friday's first-round games will feature seventh-seeded Pace University (14-12, 12-10 NE-10) hosting 10th-seeded Merrimack College (15-11, 11-11 NE-10) and eighth-seeded Adelphi University (14-12, 11-11 NE-10) hosting ninth-seeded American International College (14-12, 11-11 NE-10).

American Int'l and Adelphi will tip off at 5:30 p.m., while Merrimack and Pace will get underway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and children, and $1 for students from Northeast-10 institutions with valid ID.

Bentley (25-1, 21-1 NE-10), currently ranked No. 3 in the country, clinched the top spot in the championship field with a road win on February 20. Bentley also jumped into the top spot in the country last week, but a loss last weekend at second-seeded Stonehill College ended what had been an undefeated season for the Falcons.

In Sunday's quarterfinal round, Bentley will host the American Int'l-Adelphi winner at 3:00 p.m., while Stonehill (23-3, 19-3 NE-10) will await the Merrimack-Pace winner (3:00 p.m.). The second-seeded Skyhawks are currently ranked No. 11 in the nation. 

Also on Sunday, fourth-seeded University of Massachusetts Lowell (18-8, 15-7 NE-10) will host fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University (17-9, 14-8 NE-10) at 3:00 p.m., and sixth-seeded University of New Haven (14-12, 13-9 NE-10) will travel to third-seeded Assumption College (20-6, 17-5 NE-10) for a 2:00 p.m. tip.

Semifinal contests will take place on Thursday, March 7, followed by the Northeast-10 title game on Sunday, March 10. Both semifinal games and the final will be broadcast free of charge on northeast10.tv. Also be sure to follow the Northeast-10 on Twitter (@TheNortheast10) for updates.
