Rothman leads Warriors to upset win over second-seeded Stonehill

Tenth-seeded Merrimack College knocked off second-seeded Stonehill College, 77-72, on Sunday afternoon to advance to the semifinal round of the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Championship.

#1 Bentley 89, #8 Adelphi 80 - BOX
Top-seeded Bentley scored a school-record tying 62 points in the second-half to come from behind to knock off upset-minded and eighth-seeded Adelphi University, 89-80 in Waltham, Mass. on Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Women's Basketball Championship.

Senior guard Courtney Finn and junior forwards Lauren Battista and Jacqui Brugliera, a trio of All-Conference honorees, combined for 61 points and 25 rebounds as the Falcons overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to oust the Panthers.

Finn, who joined Battista and Brugliera in Bentley's 1,000-point club, scored 15 of her 21 points in the second half, and also provided two steals and two blocks. Battista matched her 21 and came within one rebound of a double-double, and Brugliera finished with a season-best 19 points and 11 boards.

The Falcons will host fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in one semifinal matchup.

#10 Merrimack 77, #2 Stonehill 72 - BOX
Sophomore Chloe Rothman (pictured) scored 23 points in 29 minutes off the bench to help the Warriors pull off their second straight road upset in Northeast-10 Championship play, as they defeated second-seeded and No. 11 nationally-ranked Stonehill, 77-72.

After coming from behind to knock off seventh-seeded Pace University on Friday, Merrimack once again erased a second-half deficit to advance to the semifinal round of this year's championship.

The Warriors outrebounded the Skyhawks, 41-32, and knocked down 10 three-pointers on their way to the win.  Merrimack will head to Worcester looking for their third straight upset road victory when they take on third-seeded Assumption Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

#3 Assumpion 80, #6 New Haven 66 - BOX
Third-seeded Assumption outscored sixth-seeded University of New Haven, 47-30, in the second half to advance to the semifinals

Senior guard Gabrielle Gibson scored a game-high 21 points to help lead the Greyhounds past the Chargers. New Haven held a three-point (36-33) edge at the half, but Assumption shot 49 percentfrom the floor after the break on their way to the win.

Assumption will host Merrimack Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in one Northeast-10 Championship semifinal contest.

#5 Franklin Pierce 84, #4 UMass Lowell 69 - BOX
Senior Tiffany Johnson had 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in helping lead the fifth-seeded Ravens to the semifinals.  Franklin Pierce shot 49 percent from the floor and limited fourth-seeded UMass Lowell to just 31 percent shooting.

UMass Lowell's Bianca Simmons, the 2013 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, had a game-high 28 points in defeat.

Johnson was one of five Ravens in double figures as they advanced to the semifinals where they will take on Bentley Thursday night (7:00 p.m.).
