SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Six men and five women representing Northeast-10 Conference schools were named to the 2012-13 Daktronics NCAA Division II Basketball East All-Region Teams, it was announced last week.

On the men’s side, Franklin Pierce University senior Eric Jean-Guillaume (pictured, left), University of Massachusetts Lowell junior Akeem Williams and The College of Saint Rose junior Dominykas Milka were all chosen as First Team selections.

Three more earned recognition as Second Team honorees in Franklin Pierce junior Ellis Cooper, Saint Anselm College sophomore Roy Mabrey and Southern Connecticut State University senior Trevon Hamlet.

On the Daktronics Women’s All-East Region First Team, Bentley University junior Lauren Battista and UMass Lowell senior Bianca Simmons (pictured, right) both garnered a spot.

Assumption College senior Gabrielle Gibson, Bentley senior Courtney Finn and Stonehill College junior Mary Louise Dixon were all named to the Second Team.

Jean-Guillaume was named the Northeast-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Year for the second straight season and on Tuesday night helped lead the Ravens to the NCAA East Regional Championship with a 57-52 win over Bridgeport. The senior has averaged 16.3 points per game this season while shooting nearly 48 percent from the field.

Williams led the conference in scoring this year at 19.9 points per contest, while shooting 40 percent from three-point range. He added 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game for the River Hawks, who advanced to the Northeast-10 Championship as the No. 8 seed. 

Milka finished second in the conference in both scoring (17.8) and rebounding (11.7) this year and helped lead the Golden Knights to the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championship as the 10th and final seed. He was also named a Capital One Academic All-America last month.

The three Daktronics First Team honorees were also Northeast-10 First Team selections this season.

Cooper, a teammate of Jean-Guillaume, was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball East Regional on Tuesday night after helping defeat Bridgeport to cement a spot for Franklin Pierce at the Elite Eight in Kentucky. A Second Team All-Conference pick, Cooper has averaged 14.2 points and 7.1 rebounds while shooting 55.4 percent from the field. 

Mabrey was the leading scorer for the Hawks (17.4 ppg), who won the Northeast-10 regular-season title before hosting the East Regional. That mark was good for fourth among conference leaders, and he also averaged 5.1 rebounds and knocked down 53 three-pointers.

Hamlet was second in the Northeast-10 at 17.8 points per game, and also averaged 5.5 rebounds while shooting over 42 percent from three. The senior helped lead the Owls, who were on the NCAA Tournament bubble before Southern New Hampshire earned the automatic qualifier, to a 17-10 record this year.

Both Mabrey and Hamlet joined Jean-Guillaume, Williams and Milka as Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selections in 2012-13.

Among the women’s Daktronics picks, Simmons led the nation in scoring at 28.2 points per game on her way to being named Northeast-10 Player of the Year. She was also first among conference leaders in steals (80), third in assists (110), eighth in free-throw percentage (83.2) and 14th in rebounding average (7.4). Simmons failed to score at least 20 points just twice in 27 games this season and topped the 30-point mark on 11 occasions.

Battista averaged 14.9 points and 6.7 rebounds for the Falcons, who fell in the NCAA East Region title game Monday night to Dowling, 53-51. She shot 52.7 percent from the floor and 82.1 percent from the line, and was also named Most Outstanding Player at the Northeast-10 Championship for the third straight season. She was also named a Capital One Academic All-America last month. 

Gibson was second in the league in scoring (17.8 ppg) this year and helped lead the Greyhounds to their first-ever Northeast-10 Championship game appearance, as well as the opening round of the NCAA East Regional. She knocked down 51 three-pointers this year and topped the 20-point mark 11 times.

Finn averaged 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds for the Falcons this season, while Dixon averaged 14.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 6.0 assists for the Skyhawks, who advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA East Regional. Dixon’s per-game assist mark was good for third in the nation.

The five women’s selections also made up the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team.

The Daktronics teams are selected by NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors from institutions and conference offices throughout the region.
