Bentley Women's Basketball Advances to Third Straight East Region Title Game

Bentley too much for Holy Family in East Region semifinals

WALTHAM, Mass. - No. 3 ranked and top-seeded Bentley University advanced to the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball East Region Championship game with a 85-56 victory over fourth-seeded and 6th-ranked Holy Family University Saturday night at the Dana Center in Waltham. 

The Falcons moved to 30-1 on the season and will take on third-seeded Dowling College in the title game Monday night (7:00 p.m.) at the Dana Center. It marks their third straight appearance in the East Region title game.

Earlier on Saturday, Dowling defeated No. 12 ranked and second-seeded Stonehill College, 57-45, in the other semifinal contest.

Bentley breezed to victory on Saturday night, as a spectacular first half helped propel the Falcons to the East Region title contest.

At the break, the Falcons owned a comfortable 48-29 lead over Holy Family after shooting 61 percent (20-33) overall in the first half, including 44 percent (7-16) from three-point range. Bentley also outrebounded Holy Family, 25-14, over the opening 20 minutes of play.

Jacqui Brugliera (pictured) had 17 points (7-9 FG, 3-4 3PT) and five rebounds in the first half and finished with 19 points and six rebounds in just 14 minutes of action.

Lauren Battista had a game-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, and Caleigh Crowell had 10 points and nine boards in just 18 minutes off the bench.

Stonehill, which led 27-22 at the break, was outscored 35-18 in the second half by Dowling and shot just 29.5 percent from the floor in the game, including 20 percent from three-point range.

With the loss, Stonehill's season comes to an end with a 24-5 record. 

Tori Faieta led the Skyhawks in both scoring (15) and rebounding (8) in the loss, while Mary Louise Dixon had 14 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Connie Simmons had 19 points and eight boards for Dowling, while Danielle Wilson had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
