COLCHESTER, Vt. In March of 2012, then 8th grader Erin Scott founded Basketball Buddies as part of a school project. Her younger sister, Emily, suffers from down syndrome, and Erin saw an opportunity to combine her love for basketball with the love for her younger sister. In doing so, she created the annual event, which was open to the public and all special athletes in the area to come and enjoy basketball training and clinics.
With the help of her teammates, high school basketball players from the area, and the Saint Michael's College men's and women's basketball teams, Basketball Buddies was a great success, providing a night filled with fun and instruction.
