Saint Rose’s Mia Klammer Earns Player of the Year, as Women’s Soccer All-Conference Honors Released

Women's Soccer All-Conference 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 Klammer, Darling Gutheil Highlight Awards.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Saint Rose's Mia Klammer has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year – becoming the first Golden Knight to earn the honor since Nina Predanic in the 2019 season. The announcement was made on Wednesday afternoon by the league office.

Joining Klammer with a major award was her coach - Laurie Darling Gutheil - who earned NE10 Coach of the Year for the third time in her career and for the first time since 2006. Klammer and Darling Gutheil have led Saint Rose to an undefeated record (17-0-1), the No. 1 ranking in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll and the top seed in the NE10 Championship.

Adelphi's Morgan Salmon won Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Bentley's Claire Ewen was chosen as Goalkeeper of the Year and Franklin Pierce's Roos Monsma was named Rookie of the Year. All four players who earned major awards were also selected to the All-Conference First Team.

Saint Rose, the NE10 regular season champion, boasted a league-high nine selections to All-Conference teams. Adelphi was second with seven All-Conference selections, while Franklin Pierce was third with five. The Golden Knights also led all NE10 programs with four players named to the First Team.

For a complete list of honorees, please see below. All-Conference teams are broken down by position and voted on by the league's head coaches.

Klammer becomes the fourth player in Saint Rose history to win NE10 Player of the Year, as she led all players during the regular season in goals (14), assists (13) and points (41). She scored or assisted in 13 of 17 contests for the Golden Knights – including three multi-goal performances. Klammer, the 2021 NE10 Rookie of the Year, led Saint Rose's offense in becoming a top-five scoring attack in all of Division II.

Salmon is the second Adelphi player ever selected as Defensive Player of the Year, following Taylor Groth in the 2015 season. The Panthers have posted a 0.88 goals against average this season, second-best among NE10 programs, which includes eight shutouts. Salmon not only held down Adelphi's defensive line, but contributed offensively with one goal and five assists this season. Adelphi is the No. 2 seed in the NE10 Championship.

Ewen is the first Bentley player to ever win NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year, as she led the conference in save percentage (.875) and ranked second in saves (84) during the regular season. She allowed just 12 goals in over 1,300 minutes between the posts for the Falcons, resulting in a 0.94 goals against average – third-best in the NE10. Ewen posted five shutouts and had nine games with at least five saves for the Falcons.

Monsma is the first Franklin Pierce player since Hannah Weagle in 2012 to win Rookie of the Year, as she anchored the backline for the Ravens. Franklin Pierce posted a 1.06 goals against average, the fourth-best mark among NE10 teams, and tallied five shutouts during the regular season. Monsma, a native of Hoofddorp, Netherlands, was also named to the All-Conference First Team and All-Rookie Team.

Darling Gutheil led Saint Rose to another remarkable season, as the Golden Knights remained unbeaten through 17 contests and won the NE10 regular season title for the 11th time in program history. Saint Rose is currently ranked No. 1 in all of Division II and seeks its fourth-straight NE10 Championship title this week. Now in her 28th season as head coach at Saint Rose, Darling Gutheil becomes just the fourth coach to ever win NE10 Coach of the Year at least three times.

The NE10 Women's Soccer Championship semifinals are on Thursday, Nov. 9, and the final is scheduled on Sunday, Nov. 12. Please visit Championship Central for the full bracket, schedule and team rosters.
