Adelphi Sweeps NE10 Presidents' Cup Honors for 2023-24 Season

Adelphi - Presidents' Cup 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Adelphi Wins First-Ever Men's and Women's Sports Cups.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Adelphi claimed the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup - while sweeping the first-ever Men's and Women's Sports Cups - at the league's banquet on Tuesday night at the Sheraton Boston Needham Hotel after outstanding performances from its athletic programs during the 2023-24 season.

The Presidents' Cup is presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the NE10. It is awarded to the institution that compiles the most cumulative points based upon overall regular season finishes in the team sports and final placement in the annual NE10 Championships in individual sports.

The 2023-24 academic year marked the inaugural announcement of both the Men's Sports Cup and Women's Sports Cup, which serve as part of Presidents' Cup honors to recognize athletic excellence in men's and women's sports individually.

A pair of Adelphi student-athletes - Matt Price (men's basketball) and Francesca Manzella (field hockey) - accepted all three honors for the Presidents' Cup on Tuesday night on behalf of Adelphi's athletic department.

For Adelphi, it is the fifth time it has won the NE10 Presidents' Cup - and the first time since the 2016-17 season. The Panthers finished with 178.5 overall points, a 30.5-point advantage over second-place Bentley which is the second-largest all-time margin of victory for an NE10 institution (Bryant won by 32.5 in 2007-08). Bentley finished with 148.0 points and Southern New Hampshire - the two-time reigning Presidents' Cup winner - was third with 138.5 points.

Following dominant performances in the fall and winter seasons, Adelphi continued the trend in the spring - earning at least a share of regular season titles in men's lacrosse, softball and men's tennis, along with a second-place finish in women's lacrosse. The Panthers earned 82% of their maximum total points available for spring sports, which was second only to Pace which secured 92%.

Throughout 2023-24, Adelphi totaled six regular season championships and finished among the top-three teams in a remarkable 15 of 22 sports.

In the Men's Sports Cup standings, Adelphi finished with 79.5 points, while Bentley was second with 69.0 points and Franklin Pierce was third with 65.5 points. In the Women's Sports Cup standings, Adelphi secured another double-digit victory with 99.0 points, besting Southern New Hampshire at 86.0 and Bentley at 79.0.

A trio of Adelphi administrators were present at the NE10 Banquet, as Sentwali Bakari (VP for Student Affairs/DEI), Danny McCabe (Director of Athletics) and Emily Dorko (Assoc. AD/External and SWA) witnessed Price and Manzella accepting Presidents' Cup recognition for the Panthers.
