MANSFIELD, Mass. – New Haven, the Northeast-10 Conference champion, was one of seven teams in Super Region One selected to compete in the upcoming NCAA Division II Football Championship following Sunday night's selections. It is the third-straight season that New Haven has qualified for the NCAA postseason.
New Haven (8-2, 6-1 NE10) won its fifth NE10 title in program history this weekend with a 24-17 win over Bentley at DellaCamera Stadium. During the Selection Show on Sunday night, it was revealed that the Chargers will travel to play No. 2-seeded Charleston (W.V.) in the first round of the NCAA Championship on Saturday, Nov. 18.
It is the 11th time in the past 12 seasons that the NE10 has produced at least one team in the Division II Football Championship. In that span, New Haven has qualified six times.
New Haven clinched the NE10 Championship with a 6-1 conference record, its second in the last three seasons. The Chargers did it with a mix of offense and defense - ranking second among NE10 teams in scoring offense (25.9 points per game) and first in scoring defense (13.3 points per game). New Haven is seventh among all Division II programs in scoring defense under head coach Chris Pincince.
