New Haven Football Presented with 2023 NE10 Championship Trophy

New Haven Football - 2023 Champions

RECAP: NEW HAVEN CAPTURES NE10 FOOTBALL REGULAR SEASON TITLE

Chargers Finished 2023 Season with 8-3 Record.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - This past Saturday, the New Haven football program was formally presented with the trophy for its 2023 Northeast-10 Conference Championship title during a halftime ceremony at the men's basketball game between New Haven and Bentley. NE10 Assistant Commissioner Steve Lewis was in attendance.

Graduate tight end Kevin Foelsch, one of three team captains, accepted the championsip trophy on behalf of the New Haven football program. The 2023 NE10 title is the fifth football championship won by the Chargers since joining the Conference in 2009 (2010, 2011, 2012, 2021) - and its second in the past three years.

During the ceremony, graduate tight end Dante DeLorenzo received the NE10 Elite 24 Award for football after earning a 3.916 GPA as a Homeland Security & Emergency Management major. The Elite 24 honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the finals site of each NE10 Championship. Because football has no championship game, the Elite 24 Award is given to the student-athlete on the championship team with the highest GPA.

Senior defensive lineman Jack Quander was recognized as the NE10 Defensive Lineman of the Year, while junior defensive back Giye Jenkins was honored as NE10 Defensive Player of the Year and graduate wide receiver Dev Holmes accepted his NE10 Offensive Player of the Year award. Both Quander and Holmes served as team captains alongside Foelsch during the 2023 season.

Back on November 11, New Haven defeated Bentley by a 24-17 margin to clinch the NE10 title on its home turf at DellaCamera Stadium. The Chargers finished the regular season with an 8-2 record (6-1 NE10) and qualified for the NCAA Division II Football Championship for the third-straight year.
