Assumption Claims Field Hockey Championship's Top Seed

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Assumption Greyhounds will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2023 Northeast-10 Field Hockey Championship, finishing 12-1 in conference and winning the league's regular season championship outright.  It's the second time Assumption will serve as the top seed, the first being when the Greyhounds won it all in 2021.

Assumption sits on the opposite side of the bracket from the only team to defeat it this fall.  Saint Anselm, the No. 2 ranked team in the region, is the number two seed.  The Hawks have held the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in five of the last seven NE10 tournaments, winning in 2019.

The action starts with quarterfinals on Halloween and semifinals following on November 3rd. The championship will be played at the highest remaining seed on Sunday, November 5th.

* Pace earned the #4 seed based on their regular season win vs. SNHU.
** New Haven also finished at 5-8. Franklin Pierce earned the #8 seed based on their regular season win vs. New Haven.

No. 8 Franklin Pierce @ No. 1 Assumption
October 31, 7pm
Assumption's offense exploded when these teams met October 10th.  The Greyhounds scored six goals in a 6-1 win.  Caroline McSweeney and Elle Murray each scored twice and Paige Gillette stoped a pair of shots in cage.  Zoe Noorlag made 13 saves for Franklin Pierce.  

No. 7 Mercy @ No. 2 Saint Anselm
October 31, 4pm
These two teams must just a week ago with Saint Anselm winning, 5-2.  The Hawks outshot Mercy 22-12 and secured a pair of goals from Amanda Lewandowski.  Alexandra Giordano made nine saves in defeat for Mercy.

No. 6 Adelphi @ No. 3 Bentley
October 31, 6pm
Bentley chipped away when these teams met October 21st.  The Falcons scored once in each the second, third and fourth quarters en route to a 3-1 win.  The nation's leader in saves, Mia Trottie didn't appear for Bentley.  Erin McGuiness took the start in cage and picthed a shutout.  

No. 5 SNHU @ No. 4 Pace
October 31, 4pm
The longest time has passed since these two teams played of any of the quarterfinal matchups.  Pace escaped with a 3-2 win behind a pair of goals from Krista Dietz, including the game-winner six minutes into overtime.  SNHU keeper Emma Peeters made 13 saves.
