Top Two Seeds Advance in Field Hockey Quarterfinals

2023 FH Quarters Recap

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

Tuesday night's NE10 Field Hockey Championship Quaterfinals went mostly as expected, with three of the top four seeds advancing to Friday's semifinals.  The day's lone upset belonged to No. 6 Adelphi, the defending champion, upsetting No. 3 Bentley on the road with a goal late in the third quarter.

Semifinal action kicks off Friday when Pace travels to Assumption and Adelphi visits Saint Anselm.  Saint Anselm defeated Adelphi in their first meeting, 3-1, in the conference opener for both teams.  Pace gave Assumption all it could handle in their regular season meeting.  The Greyhounds won, 1-0, behind a May Van woudenberg goal just 16 seconds into the game.

Postseason admission in all rounds of NE10 fall championships will be $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children. Current NE10 students, with valid ID, will be admitted free of charge.

No. 1 Assumption 6, No. 8 Franklin Pierce 1
Box Score

The No. 1 team in the NE10 and the Region, Assumption left no doubt in the conference quarterfinals, scoring early and often Tuesday night.

Lily Daly got the scoring started eight minutes in and added two more for her first hat trick of the season.  Mia Salah, Chloe Kaeller and Elle Murray also chipped in goals as the Greyhounds peppered the offensive third.  Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 15-2, with the Ravens registering their score from Silver Clukey.

No. 2 Saint Anselm 4, No. 7 Mercy 7
Box Score

It didn't take long Tuesday night.  Grace Michael got the scoring started just 4:18 into the NE10 Championship Quarterfinals. Michael was assisted off a penalty corner by Chloe Kapsambelis.  But the Hawks weren't done asserting themselves.  Just five minutes later Amanda Lewandowski scored her eighth goal of the season for a 2-0 advantage.

Saint Anselm did surrender a goal in the 37th minute, but used a pair from reigning NE10 Player of the Week Millie Forster and Maggie Burchill to finish the scoring for a 4-1 win.

No. 3 Bentley 1, No. 6 Adelphi 2
Box Score

Bentley clung to a 1-0 lead for much of the game after an Emily Crowell goal just nine minutes in, but Adelphi broke through in the third quarter.  The Panthers scored twice in 9 minutes with tallies from Amanda Lee and Sydney Rossacci to go ahead, 2-1.

Adelphi's defense was the ultimate difference-maker, defending eight Bentley penalty corners.  Keeper Fiona Mannion registered five saves and the Panthers' DPC unit locked down facing one final penalty corner in the closing seconds of the game.

No. 4 Pace 1, No. 5 SNHU 0
Box Score

Krista Dietz was the difference.  Adding to an all-conference caliber season, the junior scored the game's only goal in the 45th minute as a pass skipped through the circle to find her waiting stick.  The goal came with just 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter.  Dietz scored on one of the six shots she attempted with Pace outshooting SNHU 13-9.

Freshman keeper Celeste Pagliaroli made seven saves.  The Setters needed every last one of those stops en route to the postseason shutout.  Emma Peeters did make eight saves in defeat for the Penmen.
