MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm College women's basketball head coach Julie Plant announced recently that seven-year-old Alexandria Alfonso has become the newest member of the program following a partnership with Team IMPACT.

Alfonso has cerebral palsy and does not speak, but communicates with a visual computer and a smile that lights up whatever room she is in.

"We are very excited to have Alexandria Alfonso and her family join our program," Plant said. "Her spirit has been a positive influence on our entire team. Even though it is tough for her to communicate, it is great to see Alexandria's smiling face in our locker room and she has been a true inspiration to our entire program."

Team IMPACT is a non-profit chartered to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threating illnesses by pairing them with collegiate athletic teams.

Alfonso, who attends Riddlebrook Elementary, lives in Bedford with her parents, Jose and Stefanie, and her two cats. She likes the color pink and enjoys listening to music, being outside, playing on her iPad and watching Sesame Street.

"For the past year, Alexandria has brought so much joy to my life," said senior Briana Jones, who connected Alfonso with Team IMPACT and then with the women's basketball program. "She has taught me to appreciate the little things and keep smiling every day, as she does. I am beyond grateful to have her be a part of the team and I look forward to seeing her in the stands cheering on the Hawks for the rest of the season."
