Franklin Pierce, Le Moyne Earn Northeast-10 Women's Basketball Championship First-Round Wins

Both No. 4 seeds advanced to Sunday's quarterfinals of the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Championship, as Le Moyne College held off Saint Anselm College, 58-53, on Friday and Franklin Pierce University defeated Southern Connecticut State University, 74-66.

Le Moyne will travel to Northeast Division top seed Bentley University on Sunday, while Southwest top seed Adelphi University will welcome Franklin Pierce. Both games tip off at 3:00 p.m.

Other quarterfinal action on Sunday includes No. 3 Assumption College traveling to No. 2 University of New Haven (2:00 p.m.) and No. 3 American International College (17-9, 11-9 NE-10) heading to No. 2 Stonehill College (3:00 p.m.).

#4 SW Le Moyne 58, #5 NE Saint Anselm 53 – BOX
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Alex Marple poured in a game-high 21 points on Friday evening to help push the Dolphins past Saint Anselm, 58-53, while teammate Emily Greer had 19 points and seven boards.

Marple and Greer combined to shoot 13-of-24 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three, while the rest of the Dolphins shot just 26 percent in the victory.

For Saint Anselm, which owned a two-point lead at halftime, Kierra Moore had 12 points, while Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year Candace Andrews and Allie Jones had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Tori Lehr added nine points and nine boards for the Hawks, who saw their season come to and end at 15-12.

#4 NE Franklin Pierce 74, #5 SW Southern Connecticut 66 - BOX
RINDGE, N.H. – The host Ravens were faced with a 41-31 deficit at the break before rallying for a 26-10 run over the first 10 minutes of the second half en route to their 74-66 victory over visiting So. Connecticut.

Franklin Pierce outscored the Owls by 18 in its impressive second stanza on Friday night.

Kara Charette
 (pictured) and Brittany Martelle and had 22 and 21 points, respectively, in the Ravens' win, while Martelle also added seven rebounds. Jessica Hurd had 11 points and nine boards for Franklin Pierce.

Keshia Primo paced the Owls with a game-high 29 points on 12-of-22 shooting, and Jackie Beathea pulled down nine boards in the loss, which dropped So. Connecticut to 12-15 on the year.
