ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose
hosted a group from the Albany Police Athletic League
(PAL) for a Martin Luther King Day clinic at the Daniel
P. Nolan Gymnasium.
The Golden Knights men's and women's basketball teams and
coaches helped organize a group of more than 80 participants with
various drills, stations, and contests.
"The Holiday Hoops Clinic is a great way for the
student-athletes in PAL's Basketball League, and from the Capital
Region as a whole, to learn and interact with the Saint Rose men's
and women's basketball teams," said Will Malcolm, Program Director
at Albany PAL.
"The partnership between Albany PAL and Saint Rose helps to
reinforce the essentials of basketball while providing the city's
youth positive role models. The parents and coaches of these
students appreciate the clinic because they recognize the
first-hand enjoyment the children have learning and engaging with
the college players."
The Albany Police Athletic League (PAL), Inc. is a juvenile
crime prevention program that brings kids and cops together in
non-law enforcement settings. PAL accomplishes its goals by
providing numerous educational, recreational, and athletic programs
to more than 4,000 Albany youth each year. PAL seeks to provide a
safe haven for the youth of Albany in their after school hours. PAL
kids are offered mentoring and understanding through the help of
Albany Police Officers, PAL Staff, Community Volunteers, and
Interns. PAL is dedicated to providing kids, especially the most
underserved, with the support and skills they will need to journey
towards a brighter future.
Albany PAL sponsors two basketball league divisions, which
contain 14 teams from various Albany schools. Basketball is just
one of the various activities, clubs, special programs and sports
Albany PAL offers.
