COLCHESTER, Vt. - As part of October's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Saint Michael's College Athletics teams patricipated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer this past Sunday, October 20. This comes on the heels of field hockey and women's soccer holding a Think Pink event on Oct. 5.

Members of the women's basketball, women's ice hockey and women's soccer teams took part in the sixth annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Chittenden County, an American Cancer Society-sponsored five-mile walk in South Burlington's Dorset Park. Each team's goal was to raise money to help fund research, create awareness, fight back, and show support for all who are affected by the disease.

If you would like to donate toward the basketball and soccer teams' fundraising totals, please visit here and search for "SMC Women's Basketball" or "SMC Women's Soccer". All funds raised will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Visit here for more information regarding the local walk. Additional participants who are not currently registered but would like to attend can register on site on the day of the walk. Registration is free.

Since 1993, more than nine million participants across the United States have raised more than $528 million through Making Strides walks. In 2012, more than one million walkers across the country joined the American Cancer Society to raise more than $68 million through Making Strides events. On Sunday, greater than 1,300 people are expected to take part in the South Burlington event. For more information about Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, visit cancer.org/stridesonline.
