Bentley's Battista, Stonehill's Dixon earn First Team honors

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The 2013-14 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Basketball All-East Region Teams were announced on Thursday, as five Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes received recognition.

Bentley senior and Northeast-10 Player of the Year Lauren Battista was a First Team selection along with Stonehill College senior Mary Louise Dixon, while Adelphi seniors Sade Jackson and Jessica Kitrys and Bentley grad student Courtney Finn were all named to the Second Team.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II East Region schools and conferences selected the two Daktronics All-Region teams.

Battista (pictured), who received Northeast-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player honors for the fourth time in as many years this past weekend, is averaging 17.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the No. 1 nationally ranked and unbeaten (29-0) Falcons, who will host this weekend's East Regional at the Dana Center in Waltham, Mass.

Dixon  is averaging 17.4 points, 6.2 assists and 5.3 rebounds for the Skyhawks, who enter regional play as the No. 4 seed.

Jackson is averaging 13.9 points, 8.0 assists and 5.9 rebounds for the Panthers, while teammate Kitrys is tops in the Northeast-10 at 19.4 points per game to go along with 7.2 rebounds. Adelphi enters Friday's regional play as the No. 2 seed in the tournament.

Bentley's Finn is averaging 15.1 points and 7.5 rebounds this season.

All five student-athletes were named to the 2014 Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team last month.

All five will also be in action at Friday's East Region quarterfinals, which will be aired online at no cost at packnetwork.com, courtesy of an agreement reached between the three conferences that make up the East Region – the Northeast-10, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and the East Coast Conference (ECC).

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
