MANCHESTER, N.H. – Former Saint Anselm College women's basketball player Jen Gureckis '11 took part in the Boston Brain Tumor Walk on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Mother's Rest at Carson Beach in Boston, Mass., along with former teammates and current Hawks.

Gureckis, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the middle of her senior season after getting off to the best start of her career, is currently in remission and finished treatment in April 2012. Gureckis was averaging 7.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, while shooting 92.9 percent from the free throw line through her first nine games of the season when she was diagnosed.

This is the third time that Gureckis and her Saint Anselm women's basketball family participated in the walk.

There are over 600,000 people in the U.S. living with a primary brain tumor and over 28,000 of these cases are among children under the age of 20. Each year approximately 210,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor – that's over 575 people a day.
