Four men, seven women recognized by CoSIDA
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Four men and
seven women from Northeast-10 Conference schools have been named to
the 2013-14 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District 1
Basketball Teams, it was announced on Thursday. The selections are
voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA).
Of the five selected on the men’s side, four were from
Northeast-10 schools. American International College senior
Janek Schmidkunz, The College of Saint
Rose senior Dominykas Milka and sophomore
Tyler Sayre and Southern Connecticut
State University junior Tylon Smith all
received the prestigious academic honor.
Among the women’s selections were Adelphi University senior
Sade Jackson and junior Kelly
Mannix, American Int’l junior
Krista Ferrentino, Assumption College
senior Shannon Ray, Bentley University
seniors Lauren Battista and
Jacqui Brugliera and Franklin Pierce
University senior Brooke Coderre.
A Business major with a 4.00 GPA, Schmidkunz, a Berlin, Germany
native, is fourth on the Yellow Jackets in scoring at a 10.4
points-per-game clip.
Milka (pictured), an Accounting major with a 3.65 GPA, is
averaging 20.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game this season for
the Golden Knights, while Sayre, a Business Administration major
with a 3.73 GPA, has posted averages of 19.6 points and 6.2
rebounds this year.
Smith, a recreation and leisure studies major, sports a 3.68 GPA
and is averaging 19.1 points this season on 57.8 percent shooting
this winter.
Jackson, a Sports management major with a 3.37 GPA, currently
leads Division II in assists (8.8) and is also averaging 14.1
points and 5.7 rebounds per contest. Her teammate Mannix, a 3.95
GPA Business management major, is averaging 11.5 points on the
season.
Ferrentino leads American Int’l in scoring (14.7) and is
second on the team in rebounding (6.6). The Business major carries
a 3.95 GPA.
Ray, a math/education/psychology major, currently boasts a
cumulative GPA of 3.69. The Assumption Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee (SAAC) president for 2013-2014, earns Academic
All-District honors for the first time. She currently leads the
team in scoring at 13.7 points per game and in assists with 3.4 per
contest. Ray ranks 19th in the Northeast-10 in scoring, ninth in
total assists with 62 and third in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.2
She is also 15th in the league in field goals made with 91 and
three-point shooting percentage at 36.8 percent.
Battista, a first-team Academic All-America last year and a third-team selection as a sophomore, is making her third appearance on the All-District team. Bentley's all-time leading scorer with 1,824 points, the two time WBCA Division II All-America leads the number one-ranked and undefeated Falcons in scoring (16.8), field goal percentage (.571), free throw percentage (.828) and offensive rebounds (50).
Brugliera, an All-District honoree for the first time, is
averaging 10.4 points and 4.4 rebounds this season while playing 18
minutes a game. A three-time All-Northeast-10 selection, she is
16th on Bentley's all-time scoring list with 1,322 points.
Corderre, a sports and recreation management major, boasts a 3.93
GPA in her area of study. She is averaging 11.2 points, 4.2
rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game this season, all
career-highs.
All of the aforementioned Capital One All-District honorees wil
advance to the national ballot.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes.
