Portsmouth, N.H. – The College of Saint Rose’s Christina Cuffari was chosen as the 2011-2012 Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year it was announced Tuesday evening at the Northeast-10 Conference annual awards banquet.

The conference’s Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) Council chooses the Woman of the Year.

Cuffari, a member of the national title winning women’s soccer team, was recognized at the Northeast-10 Banquet, which took place Tuesday night in Portsmouth, N.H.

She will now be forwarded to the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics, which manages the nomination process and selection for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The award honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Cuffari was an integral part of the women’s soccer team at Saint Rose, and during her time on the time, the Golden Knights advanced to the National Semifinals each of her four years.  This past fall, Saint Rose defeated Grand Valley State, 2-1, in the national championship game to give the school it’s first ever team national championship at the Division II level.

Cuffari recently graduated from Saint Rose with a 3.73 grade point average, and majored in business administration.

“It is a great honor to have Christina Cuffari selected as Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year. Christina is an outstanding student-athlete representative for Saint Rose and the Northeast-10 Conference.  She exemplifies excellence in the classroom and on the playing field that so many of our student-athletes achieve each year,” said Saint Rose Athletics Director Cathy Haker.

The senior midfielder from Brick, N.J. was named the Division II East Region Player of the Year, as well as the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year.  Cuffari was also named to the CoSIDA / Capital One Academic All-American team twice (2010, 2011), and was tabbed as a First Team Scholar All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) this past fall.

Off the field, Cuffari volunteered at numerous events during her time at Saint Rose.  Her community service efforts included volunteering at the Albany, N.Y. Youth Soccer Clinic, helping raise money for Make-A-Wish, and Relay for Life.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes.
