South Easton, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team is currently ranked first in the nation according to the most recent National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) weekly rankings, which were released on Tuesday.

The Golden Knights (3-0-0, 1-0 NE-10) moved up two spots after appearing third in the NSCAA preseason poll, as the defending Northeast-10 Conference titleholders overtook defending national champion Grand Valley State and national runner-up University of California San Diego in the new rankings.

Saint Rose has won three straight to open the 2011 season following last year's 23-1-1, 15-0 NE-10 record. The Golden Knights shut out New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) 10-0 in their season opener September 1 before traveling across the country for a matchup with New Mexico Highlands two days later.  Saint Rose prevailed there with a 2-1 triumph in overtime before taking down Pace University 5-0 on Tuesday night in the first slate of conference games.

The four-time defending conference champs have now won 39 straight contests in NE-10 action with the victory over Pace. The undefeated streak dates all the way back to the 2009 season.

The Golden Knights also advanced to the Division II national semifinals for the third straight season a year ago.

Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce University (2-0-0, 0-0 NE-10) was ranked 16th in the poll, which is up two spots after being chosen 18th in the preseason voting.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
