NE10 Men's Soccer Report: Week 5

Week 5 - October 4, 2021

NE10 Player of the Week

Paolo Marciano, Adelphi
Senior | Forward | Capaccio, Italy

Led all Panthers with eight points (3 g, 2 a) in a critical 2-0 week that catapulted Adelphi into the Top 3 of the NE10 table ... Scored the equalizer on a penalty kick and assisted on the overtime game-winner in a 2-1 victory over SCSU last Tuesday (Sept. 28) ... Netted the game's first goal in the 13th minute, added another in the second half, and assisted on a goal in a 5-1 victory at Saint Michael's on Saturday (Oct. 2).

NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week

Lucas Morales Fernandez, AIC
Freshman | Goalkeeper | Amherst, Mass.

Morales-Fernandez slammed the door on his opposition once again in a 2-0-0 week for AIC, shutting out both opponents on the road. Against Assumption, he notched six saves to keep the Greyhounds at bay, and then against Saint Anselm he made three saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless until his teammates netted the deciding tally.

NE10 Rookie of the Week

Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca, Adelphi
Sophomore | Forward | Buenos Aires, Argentina

Rocca broke out for another big week to help propel the Panthers to the top three of the NE10 table. He accounted for two more game-winners to stretch his streak to four straight. Rocca scored the overtime game-winner in the 97th minute in a 2-1 victory over SCSU (Sept. 28). He recorded a brace and added an assist for a five-point day in a 5-1 win at Saint Michael's (Oct. 2), and now leads the conference in goals and points.

NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

Daniel De La Heras, Adelphi (Jr, GK - Madrid, Spain)
Re-emerged as the starting keeper for the Panthers the last two weeks ... Posted an impeccable 0.96 goals-against average in two wins this week ... Made five saves in a thrilling 2-1 overtime win against SCSU last Tuesday (Sept. 28) ... Followed that up with a four-save performance in a 5-1 victory at Saint Michael's on Saturday (Oct. 2).

Carl Larsson, American Int'l (Fr, F - Ostersund, Sweden)
Larsson was a key piece of AIC's offense in a 2-0-0 week, with both wins on the road. Against Assumption, he set up a goal that put the Yellow Jackets ahead 2-0, giving AIC breathing room against a gritty Greyhounds team. He then notched the only goal of a hard-fought game against Saint Anselm, scoring the winner in the 64th minute.

Jonas Cervera Anchel, Franklin Pierce (Gr., M/F - Chiva, Spain)
Cervera Anchel tallied four points last week on one goal and two assists. He recorded one point on one assist against Le Moyne, and totaled three points on one goal and one assist at Assumption. The graduate student also registered three shots, all at Assumption, with two on target.

Kosta Maniatis, Franklin Pierce (Jr., GK - Montreal, Quebec)
Maniatis went 2-0 overall last week. He recorded six saves on the week, including two against Le Moyne and four at Assumption, and a .857 save percentage. The junior registered his fifth shutout of the season with the 1-0 win over Le Moyne, and only allowed one goal at Assumption.

Brock Martindale, St. Michael's (Fr., B - Pittsburgh, Pa.)
Freshman back Brock Martindale (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored on free kicks in both games last week, including potting the 73rd-minute game-winner in a 2-1 triumph at regionally-ranked Saint Anselm on Tuesday. His 60th-minute strike against Adelphi, which qualified for the past five NCAA Tournaments, cut the deficit to 3-1 on Saturday during a 5-1 loss.

Tomas Rozman, Saint Rose (Fr, GK - Sydney, Australia)
Recorded six saves in only his third career start to help the Golden Knights earn a 1-1 draw at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday.

Michael Goncalves, Southern N.H. (Gr., F - Ludlow, Mass.)
Michael Goncalves registered a goal and two assists for four points during a 1-0-1 week for the Penmen. Goncalves tallied a goal and an assist, including a beautiful bicycle-kick strike, in Tuesday's 4-1 win at Bentley. He then assisted on the 73rd-minute equalizer in a 1-1 tie with Saint Rose on Saturday.

Santiago Rojas, Southern N.H. (Gr., GK - Tunja, Colombia)
Santiago Rojas stopped four of the six shots he faced during a 1-0-1 week for the Penmen. Rojas made four saves in Tuesday's 4-1 win at Bentley and then did not make a stop in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Saint Rose.

Andrew Hammersley, Stonehill (Jr, GK - Garden City, N.Y.)
Registered five saves as the Skyhawks collected a hard earned point on the road in its lone match of the week, a scoreless double overtime draw at New Haven on Saturday. The shutout is the first of Hammersley's collegiate career.
