The NE10 Weekend Preview: Oct. 1-3
Every Friday, the NE10 is going to highlight the biggest contests each weekend. It may be a big-time rivalry, matchup between two ranked teams or a battle for playoff-positioning. Fans can follow the action for every game by visiting our schedule page.

FOOTBALL

American International at Southern Connecticut: Oct. 1 – 7:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

Coming off a narrow 35-27 loss to undefeated Bentley, American International looks to get back on track – but will have a tough road test at Southern Connecticut, a team that knocked-off Division I Central Connecticut in the first week of the season. Both teams enter Friday with 1-1 records in NE10 play.

AIC quarterback Jayson Demild has thrown for a league-high 13 touchdown passes this season, leading the Yellow Jackets to nearly 30 points per game. The Owls, who recently lost to crosstown-rival New Haven, hope that wide receiver Izaiah Sanders can help them bounce back, as he ranks third in the NE10 in receptions per game (5.3). In the most recent meeting in 2019, the Yellow Jackets edged the Owls in Springfield, 19-13.

Bentley at Saint Anselm: Oct. 2 – 3:30 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

For the first time since 2009, Bentley is ranked in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll – coming in at No. 24 after its most recent 35-27 victory over American International. The Falcons (4-0, 2-0 NE10) look to remain undefeated when they travel to play Saint Anselm at Grappone Stadium.

The Hawks (1-2, 1-1 NE10) are coming off a 42-7 win over Franklin Pierce, as sophomore quarterback Drew Willoughby – a two-time NE10 Rookie of the Week – threw for 370 yards and accounted for four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing). Bentley hasn't lost to Saint Anselm since 2014 and enters Saturday with the highest-scoring offense in the NE10 (35.0 points per game).


FIELD HOCKEY

Southern Connecticut at Saint Michael's: Oct. 2 – 3:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

The Owls look to continue their impressive start in conference play where they are 2-2, with one overtime loss. Saint Michael's meanwhile, is 2-3 in NE10 action and 3-6 overall but ranks fourth in the NE10, averaging 2.7 goals per game. The Purple Knights earned a 2-1 victory over SCSU when the teams met back in 2019.  

Saint Michael's Jenna Puleo ranks third in the nation, averaging 2.67 points per game, with seven goals and ten assists. In net, Riley O'Connor has started all eight games with a 3.10 GAA and 76 saves. Kaitlyn Bourque and Josephine Nolet each have two goals while Janelle Ward has posted a 3.42 GAA with 79 saves and a .790 save percentage this season.

New Haven vs. No. 3 Assumption: Oct. 3 – 2:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

The Greyhounds and Chargers are two of the three teams still undefeated in conference play heading into Saturday's matchup. Assumption is 7-1 and ranked No.3 nationally, while New Haven is 5-4 overall (5-0 NE10) and having its best season program history. Through five NE10 contests they are both tied for first in the conference with 3.2 goals per game, though Assumption has attempted 11 more penalty corners. 

New Haven features a balanced scoring attack as five players have at least two goals, led by Reilly Bialko with three goals and four assists. Keira Integlia has allowed just ten goals in nine starts, posting a 1.09 GAA with 40 saves. Kylie Gargiulo has anchored the Assumption defense with a 1.09 GAA and 45 saves to go with an .833 save percentage. Offensively, Isabel Primack has six goals and two assists, while Deirdre Burchill & Mia Salah each have scored five times. 


MEN'S SOCCER 

Adelphi vs. Saint Michael's: Oct. 2 – 12:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

After a slow start to the season, Adelphi has won three straight contests with two coming in overtime. The Panthers are up to 3-1 in conference play, and 4-3-1 overall but they have given up at least one goal in every game this year. The Purple Knights have won two straight and boast a 5-3 record overall this year with a 2-2 mark in NE10 action. They've been anchored by a defense which is fifth in the NE10 with a 1.50 GAA in conference play. 

Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca and Paolo Marciano have combined for 10 goals and seven assists this year. Daniel De La Heras has started the last three games in net, posting a 1.23 GAA and 11 saves with a .733 save percentage. Miguel Diaz leads the Purple Knights with four goals and two assists while Mathias Loft has started five games with a 1.60 GAA and ten saves betweent the pipes.. 

Saint Rose at Southern New Hampshire: Oct. 2 – 4:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

The Penmen look to go over .500 in conference play this weekend and put together their first win streak of the year as they are 4-4 overall. In their last three games they've outscored opponents 10-4 while going 2-1. Saint Rose, meanwhile, is just 2-4-1 overall and 1-2 in NE10 action. They've dropped two straight, including an OT loss to New Haven. The last time these teams met was the 2019 NE10 Quarterfinals, which was played to a 0-0 2OT draw before Saint Rose advanced on penalty kicks.

Michael Goncalves and Alexander Reiter lead the team with four goals and one assist apiece while Jackson Rivers and Santiago Rojas have split time in net, posting a 1.50 GAA with 20 saves. Victor Henriksen has scored four of the Golden Knights' eight goals this season. Ryan Henning has started six games in net, posting a 1.65 GAA with 18 saves and a .643 save percentage.


WOMEN'S SOCCER

Saint Rose at Stonehill: Oct. 2 – 2:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

When No. 3 Saint Rose visits Stonehill on Saturday, the match will feature the two top seeds from the NE10 Women's Soccer Championship in 2019. The Golden Knights (6-0-1, 3-0-1 NE10) will enter the match ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches poll, while Stonehill (3-4-1, 2-3-1 NE10) seeks a trademark win following a near-upset of No. 14 SNHU on Wednesday – which ended in a 3-2 overtime loss for the Skyhawks.

Freshman forward Mia Klammer from Saint Rose was named United Soccer Coaches National Division II Player of the Week on Wednesday after scoring six goals in two wins for the Golden Knights last week. She leads Saint Rose's league-best offense (3.14 goals per game) against Stonehill's attack, led by senior forward Camryn Thompson (three goals this season).

Assumption at Saint Anselm: Oct. 2 – 3:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

Saint Anselm will host Assumption on Saturday in a potential foreshadow of an NE10 Championship postseason matchup at Melucci Field. The Hawks (5-1-1, 3-1-1 NE10) currently sit tied for third in the NE10 standings, while the Greyhounds (3-1-3, 1-0-3 NE10) are close behind in fifth.

Assumption senior midfielder Diana Bruggeman is tied for second in the NE10 with nine points this season, while the Greyhound defense is sporting a 0.63 goals against average through seven matches. Saint Anselm ranks fourth in the league in goals scored (13) and enters Saturday on a five-match unbeaten streak (four wins, one tie). Assumption won the most recent meeting in 2019.


VOLLEYBALL

American International at Adelphi: Oct. 2 – 1:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

Adelphi (11-3, 1-0 NE10), winners of six of its past seven matches, will host American International (8-6, 1-2 NE10) on Saturday at the Center for Recreation and Sports in a tough conference battle. The Yellow Jackets have earned runner-up status in each of the past two NE10 Championship finals.

The Panthers are led by three-time NE10 Libero of the Week Jamie Yonker, who averages 5.22 digs per set – third-best in the league. The Yellow Jackets are led by the trio of Naomi Eckert, Amanda Rodriguez and Andrea Serra – who rank in the top five of the NE10 in assists, digs and kills, respectively. AIC has won the past four meetings against Adelphi, including the 2018 NE10 Championship semifinals.

Southern New Hampshire at Stonehill: Oct. 2 – 1:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

Stonehill, one of the hottest teams in the NE10, looks to add to its four-game winning streak when it hosts Southern New Hampshire on Saturday. The Skyhawks have won nine of 10 matches overall – while taking down some of the heaviest hitters in the league during non-conference play, including Bentley, Saint Anselm and American International.

The Skyhawks (9-5, 1-0 NE10) are led by reigning NE10 Player of the Week Abby Remick, who ranks ninth in the league in kills per set (3.04). SNHU (5-5, 1-1 NE10) is coming off a 3-0 win over in-state rival Franklin Pierce on Wednesday and is led by Juliana Pacini and Deanne Wilson, who lead all NE10 players in kills and digs per set, respectively.


WOMEN'S TENNIS

Adelphi at Le Moyne: Oct. 2 – 12:00 p.m.­

Le Moyne, the last remaining undefeated team in NE10 play, will host Adelphi on Saturday in a battle for the top position in the league standings. The Dolphins (6-0, 4-0 NE10) are coming off a 5-2 win over previously unbeaten Southern New Hampshire, while the Panthers (4-1, 3-1 NE10) recently fell to the Penmen by the same 5-2 margin.

Freshman Isabella Barona, a two-time NE10 Rookie of the Week, leads Le Moyne into the match (3-1 singles record, 3-0 doubles record), while senior Barbie Quagliardi – the 2019 NE10 Player of the Year – is one of Adelphi's top returning players this season. 

Southern New Hampshire at Stonehill: Sunday, Oct. 3 – 12:00 p.m.

When Southern New Hampshire visits Stonehill, it will be a match featuring a pair of 4-1 teams in conference play. The Penmen (4-1, 4-1 NE10) are coming off a 5-2 loss to Le Moyne, while Stonehill (4-1, 4-1 NE10) edged Assumption, 4-3, last Sunday.

SNHU graduate student Natalie Kallmunzerova, who won the ITA East Regional Women's Singles Championship in September, is a perfect 4-0 at No. 1 singles this season. Stonehill is led by juniors Cristina Solorzano Valencia and Steffi Antao, its No. 1 and 2 singles players, respectively, who helped lead the Skyhawks to the NE10 Championship final this past spring.
