NE10 Player of the Week

Cristina Solorzano Valenica, Stonehill
Sophomore | Morelia, Mexico

Posted a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles play in a 3-0 week for the regionally-ranked Skyhawks. The East Region's No. 6-ranked singles player opened the week by posting a pair of clinching wins against regionally-ranked opposition in Wednesday's 4-0 triumph at Southern N.H., ranked No. 3 in the region. She and sophomore doubles partner Steffi Antao started by clinching the doubles point for Stonehill with their 7-5 triumph at No. 1 against SNHU junior Alexxa Etienne and sophomore Magdalena Hubickova. Solorzano Valencia followed that up with the match-clinching point for Stonehill at No. 1 singles against Hubickova, No. 5 in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings. Solorzano Valencia claimed the match in a second set tiebreaker (8-6) after winning the first set, 6-3. Solorzano Valencia and Antao finished the week 3-0 at No. 1 doubles for the Skyhawks, adding wins against Bentley and Saint Anselm, dropping a combined three games over the two matches. Solorzano Valencia didn't log another singles win for the week, but led in both of her other two matches at No. 1 singles when the matches against Bentley and Saint Anselm were halted.


NE10 Rookie of the Week

Caitlin Sze, Assumption
Freshman | South Windsor, Conn.

Sze went a combined 4-0 this past week, posting a 2-0 mark at both No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles as part of a 2-0 week for Assumption. She beat Bentley's Makena Romagnano in three sets (6-1, 5-7, 7-5) and Saint Michael's Mary Leys in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) at No. 2 singles, while teamming up with Julia Chappell for a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles. 


NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

Barbie Quagliardi, Adelphi (Jr. - Istanbul, Turkey)
Continued her undefeated run in doubles and unbeaten streak at No. 2 singles...Won both her singles matches in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of AIC's on Sunday...In addition to going 2-0 in doubles, Quagliardi posted her most convincing win at the No. 2 flight this season, with a 6-1 victory against AIC.

Marta Nunez, Le Moyne (Sr. - Rye, N.Y.)
She went 2-0 in singles action and 2-0 in doubles play in Le Moyne's 2-0 week. She was victorious in straight sets at first singles against American International on Wednesday and at third singles on Sunday against New Haven. In doubles action, she won at the first spot against AIC and the second position against New Haven.

Ivana Andric, New Haven (Gr. - Griesheim, Germany)
In a two-match week, the Chargers top singles and top doubles player finished 3-1 earning first singles victories against two of the best teams in the conference, Adelphi and Le Moyne. She also went 1-1 in doubles play with partner Stephanie Gonzalez. Andric opened the week with a first singles win against the Panthers Nicole Kielan in the first of three meetings the two are slated for. This time around, Andric defeated Kielan with scores of 6-4, 6-3. In the weekend match against Le Moyne, Andric began the evening with a 6-3 win at first singles as the Chargers took the singles point from the Dolphins. She followed that up with another straight-set win over the Dolphins No. 1, 6-3, 6-1.

Alexxa Etienne, Southern New Hampshire (Jr. - Istanbul, Turkey)
Her result at No. 2 singles was the decisive match that sent the Panthers to their third-straight win; a 4-2 victory over Le Moyne on Easter Sunday...Dropped the first set, 6-2, but rallied to claim the final two by scores of 7-5 and 6-2 at No. 2 singles...Also teamed up with Nicole Kielan and remained undefeated at top doubles with a 6-4 victory.

Magdalena Hubickova, Southern New Hampshire (So. - Prague, Czech Republic)
Hubickova went 4-2 during a 2-1 week for the Penmen, including 2-1 at No. 1 singles. Hubickova opened the week with a 3-6, 6-7 (6-8) loss to Cristina Solorzano Valencia in a 4-0 defeat against Stonehill on Wednesday, but rebounded with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Abby Edelmann in Friday's 7-0 blanking of Saint Michael's and a 6-0, 6-2 triumph versus Adriana Hiraldo in a 5-2 victory against Bentley on Sunday. Hubickova and junior Alexxa Etienne were edged at No. 1 doubles by Solorzano Valencia and Steffi Antao, 7-5, but scored a 6-1 win against Edelmann and Mary Leys, as well as a 6-4 victory over Hiraldo and Alessa Matuty.

Emma Markaryan, Stonehill (Jr. - Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.)
Posted a combined 5-0 record in singles and doubles play in a 3-0 week for the regionally-ranked Skyhawks. She won all three of her matches at No. 4 singles in wins over regionally-ranked Southern N.H., Bentley and Saint Anselm. Markaryan and sophomore Lily Peter also went 3-0 at No. 3 doubles. She started by pulling the Skyhawks within a point of the match victory at SNHU with her commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles against SNHU sophomore Mina Houge. Markaryan and Peter clinched the doubles point for Stonehill in Friday's 4-0 win at Bentley with their 6-2 victory at No. 2, then she added the match-clinching point to her afternoon, posting a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles against Bentley freshman Anna Lang. In Sunday's 4-0 win over Saint Anselm, she led three double-winners and didn't drop a game over three sets of singles and doubles play. Markaryan and Peter rolled to a 6-0 win at No. 3 for the Skyhawks first doubles win, then she followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Saint Anselm senior Dominique Bolduc at No. 4 singles.
