NE10 Cross Country Report: Week 5

Week 5 - October 12, 2021

NE10 Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Ezra Mutai, American International College
Sophomore | Eldoret, Kenya

Mutai dominated the field at the New England Championships, taking the crown in a field that included 18 Division I teams. He won the 8K race in 23:56.4, 50.1 seconds faster than the closest competitor not on his own team.


NE10 Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Fransiscah Cherotich, American International College
Freshman | Kapenguria, Kenya

Cherotich excelled in her debut for AIC, taking the silver medal at the New England Championships over the weekend, beating 105 of the 106 Division I runners in the race with a time of 17:24.1 in the 5K event.


NE10 Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Callum Elson, American International College
Freshman | Leeds, England

Elson was a brilliant performer for AIC at the New England Championship, finishing second, behind only his teammate Mutai, with a time of 24:23.4, 23.1 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher in a field full of Division I athletes from 18 teams.


NE10 Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Fransiscah Cherotich, American International College
Freshman | Kapenguria, Kenya

Cherotich excelled in her debut for AIC, taking the silver medal at the New England Championships over the weekend, beating 105 of the 106 Division I runners in the race with a time of 17:24.1 in the 5K event.


NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

Claudio Rocha, Assumption University (Jr. - Peabody, Mass.)
Rocha led the way for Assumption at the New England Championship, finishing in 20th place in a time of 25:17.4.

Wondu Summa, Franklin Pierce (So. - Burlington, Vt.)
Finished 73rd in a 233-runner field at Saturday's Lewis Crossover, with an 8k time of 26:14.

Bethaney Donnelly, Franklin Piere (Gr. - Manchester, United Kingdom)
Finished 48th in a 250-runner field at Saturday's Lewis Crossover, with a 6k time of 23:25.

Matt Bartolotta, Le Moyne College (R-Fr. - Syracuse, N.Y.)
He placed first in a field of 92 competitors at the eight-kilometer Hamilton College Invitational on Saturday with a time of 26:06.0 to win by over 31 seconds.

Samantha Pellegrini, Le Moyne (Sr. - Loudonville, N.Y.)
She placed sixth with a time of 20:01.7 to lead the women's team to a third-place finish at the five-kilometer Hamilton College Invitational on Saturday.

Noah Taracena, Saint Michael's (So., - Hampton, N.H.)
Sophomore Noah Taracena placed 24th out of 163 runners during the 8K James Earley Invitational on Saturday. His time of 26:46.95 was a PR, as 12 of the harriers he trailed hailed from regional Division III powers, including Williams, which stands third nationally, and Trinity and Vassar, both of which are ranked regionally.

Dylan McGuire , Southern Connecticut (So., - Preston, Conn.)
At the James Earley Invitational, McGuire finished in 27th place out of 163 student-athletes. with a personal-best time of 26:54.0 in the 8k. Southern finished in ninth place overall out of 21 competing schools.

Ashley Corcoran, Southern N.H. (Gr, - East Longmeadow, Mass.)
Corcoran followed up a successful Paul Short run with a strong finish at the NEICAAA in Boston Saturday. Her 5k run of 18.20.4 was good for 21st place and was the second fastest in program history. SNHU, ranked tops in the region, and 30th overall, finished 12th.

Shane Braz, Stonehill (Sr, - Peabody, Mass.)
Led the finishers from the Skyhawks at Saturday's New England Championships in 56th out of 161 runners overall by completing the eight-kilometer course in 26:05.9.

Rebecca Erhard, Stonehill (Sr, - Wenham, Mass.)
Led the way for the Skyhawks to an 11th place team finish, second among NE10 programs at the New England Championships on Saturday, with a 30th place finish out of 155 runners overall as she completed the five-kilometer course in 18:34.2
