Yellow Jackets End Stonehill's Streak of NE10 Titles at 11
MANCHESTER, N.H. – The American International women's cross country team snapped Stonehill streak of 11 consecutive NE10 Cross Country Titles as the Yellow Jackets earned the program's first NE10 Championship Sunday on the campus of Saint Anselm College.
AIC finished with 40 points overall, highlighted by three runners in the top-seven to take down Stonehill who placed second with 52 points. It is the first time since 2008 that Stonehill hasn't won the NE10 Title. Southern New Hampshire placed third with 64 points while Southern Connecticut took fourth (101) and Assumption placed fifth with 139 points.
Individually, AIC freshman Fransiscah Cherotich won the race in 21:21, setting a new NE10 record since the women's race moved to a 6K distance in 2015. Teammate and classmate Mercyline Kimaiyo placed second with her time of 21:45 while Southern N.H.'s Ashley Corcoran took third in 22:22 and Bethaney Donnelly was fourth in 22:27. Stonehill didn't have any runners in the top five, but did place four in the top-15 to secure Runner-Up status.
Following the race, Franklin Pierce's Alena Masterson was awarded the NE10 Elite 24 award for owning the highest GPA with a 4.0, at the NE10 Championship this year.
